GBHS drops 10-inning marathon
All four of GBHS' district losses have come by a total of eight runs. Gulf Breeze took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Kris Matsoukas walked and scored on a single by Patrick Vance. Matsoukas scored twice in the loss, while Vance went 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored. The Jaguars scored two in the second and third innings before the Dolphins cut the deficit in half with two in the fourth. Matsoukas reached on an error before Vance drew a one out walk. Shane Dorlag then brought both of them in with a two out single. Dorlag went 2- for-5 with a run scored. Kameron Brunty reached on an error before Corey Downs singled in the fifth to tie it at 4-4. The Jags scored one in the fifth before the Dolphins took a 6-5 lead in the sixth inning. Dane Monnin and Dorlag hit consecutive singles before T.J. Jordan laid down a sacrifice to move them up base. Brandon Scott then singled to score Brunty, while Matsoukas hit into a fielder's choice to score Dorlag. West Florida tied it in the sixth and were looking to win in the seventh, but Brunty, playing center field, threw baserunner out at the plate to force extra innings. Thomas Dorsey, in his fourth inning in relief of Mark Waghalter, was called for a balk with a runner on first in the 10th inning. That runner moved to third and came in to score on fly ball to center field. Dorsey allowed only two hits and struck out three in 3 1/innings, while Waghalter allowed 10 hits and struck out one in the first six innings. Gulf Breeze left 11 runners on base and nine in scoring position. Dolphins 9, PHS 0 Ben Lively threw a two-hit shutout, striking out eight and throwing only 83 pitches March 18 at PHS. Scott, who went 2-for-4, singled with two outs in the first to score both Jordan and Matsoukas. A single by Brunty, who went 2-for-3 with four RBIs, scored Dorlag, who singled, to make it 3-0. Gulf Breeze made it 4-0 in the fifth when Dane Monnin singled and scored on a bases loaded walk to Brunty. Jordan drove in a run in the sixth when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Downs, who walked, scored on a play. Brunty followed with a three-run triple that scored Monnin, Dorlag and Jordan. Matsoukas then drove in Brunty with a single. Dolphins 5, Christ Presbyterian Academy 1 Gulf Breeze needed three in the fourth and two in the fifth to overcome a 1-0, first inning deficit to CPA, from Nashville, on March 17. Scott led off the fourth inning with a walk. He'd eventually come in to score on a sacrifice fly by Kolton Hanke. Downs then singled and scored on a double steal with Mark Waghalter, who walked and came around to score on a two-out double by Dorlag. In the fifth inning, Scott doubled and scored on a single by Vance. Spencer Wiley, running for Vance, scored on a wild pitch. Bo Dobson struck out four and allowed four hits in five innings to get the win. West Florida JV 4, Dolphins 3 A three-run homer with two outs in the top of the seventh was the difference as the Jags edged Gulf Breeze Thursday. Stephen Robbins, Robyn Hoffpauir, Tyler McGee and Tyler Boylan all had two hits in the loss. Jackson Yates struck out seven in six innings, earning a no decision. Dolphin JV 8, PHS 2 Alex Ball and Isaac Davis combined on a two-hitter, striking out eight between the two of them in a win over the Tigers. Nicky Schumacher had two hits, with an RBI and a run scored. Dolphin ninth grade 14, Christ Presbyterian Academy 3 Tyler Dobson and Jase Brown both had two hits in a win over CPA. Ratte scored three times, while Trey Nichols, Bryce Wein and Biederman all scored twice. Dolphin ninth grade 2, Navarre 2 (eight innings) Justin Ratte pitched all eight innings, while allowing only three hits and striking out 13 and allowing no walks in a tie to Navarre. Brandon Sorenson scored a run, while Ratte, after reaching on a fielder's choice, scored on a Tyler Dobson single. Tate ninth grade 1, Dolphins 0 A two-out double in the bottom of the seventh gave the Aggies a win over Gulf Breeze. Sorenson struck out four in the first three innings, while Dallas Biederman pitched the last two. GBHS left 10 runners on base. The Dolphins host Jay Monday at 2 p.m. |
