SRIA allows three public Gulfside concession vendors
BY LISA NEWELL Gulf Breeze News lisa@gulfbreezenews.com

Santa Rosa Island Auth- ority Board Members decided to reward the ingenuity of a leaseholder and award him a sublease to provide concessions at Park East and Fort Pickens Gate Park.

Halford Harris and Jerry Sears, owner of The Market, proposed the venture, and the SRIA board discussed opening up the proposal to bids. However, board member Ed Guernsey said the board should allow the venture for one year to "see how they do."

Additionally, beach concessions will be offered Gulfside by the Portofino resort, as an amenity for guests and the public. The concession will be directly across from the resort on Via de Luna Drive.

The board also took the following action:

* Denied the proposal for an offshore concession after the Department of Environmental Protection learned about it in the Gulf Breeze News and denied a permit;

* Approved a sound mitigation proposal at the Sandshaker Lounge

* Accepted a report from Pensacola Beach Chamber on the noise levels on Pensacola Beach.

* Heard an update on the Clarion project, which is breaking ground this year
