EVELYN SASSER CLAYTON DILLREE
1928 - 2008

Evelyn Sasser Clayton Dillree departed this life on Sunday, March 16, in Gulf Breeze, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilson Sasser and Lenora Luker Sasser; her husband, William C. Clayton and her brothers, Edward and Max Sasser.

Born in Atmore, Ala., she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Alabama and taught 3rd grade at Cordova Park Elementary for a number of years. After receiving her Masters Degree in Elementary Guidance from Florida State University, she became a counselor at Gulf Breeze Elementary. From 1983 to 1985, Evelyn, was a social worker and substitute teacher in Guantanomo Bay, Cuba Naval Air Station.

Evelyn was named Florida's Outstanding School Counselor of the Year; served as President of Florida School Counselors and President of West Florida Personnel and Guidance Association. She spent 3 years as Public Relations Chairperson, Florida School Counselor Association; 4 years as a delegate to the American School Counselor Association and served as a member, White House Conference on Families.

Community acknowledgement came as President, PJC Woman's Club; Nominee, Outstanding Woman of the Year 1980 and being presented The Outstanding Educator Award, 1980. Following retirement, she pursued her interest in the arts through the Gulf Breeze Arts Club and Pensacola Cultural Arts, displaying and selling her paintings in many local shows.

She leaves her husband, John Dillree; two children, W. C. Clayton Jr. (Charlotte) and Beverlee Treis (Robert); five sisters, Patsy Miller, Carolyn Hetzel, Joyce Brown, all of Atmore, Alabama and Eunice Reynolds and Marie Bryant, both of Mobile, Alabama. Additional survivors are her grandchildren, Clayton and Garrett Treis; step-children, Lisa Burnham (Marty) and John Dillree, Jr. (Suzy) and step grandchildren, Bradley and Kimberly Burnham and Nicole Dillree.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Thursday, March 20, at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel with the Reverend Mark Brown officiating.

Interment will follow ed at Bayview Memorial Park.

BAYVIEW FISHER-POU CHAPEL, 3351 Scenic Highway is in charge of arrangements.
