West Florida Genealogy society to meet April 5 in Pensacola to trace roots
FROM STAFF REPORTS Gulf Breeze News news@gulfbreezenews.com

There will be an extraordinary opportunity offered free on April 5 to residents who suspect they are descendants of early Escambia and Santa Rosa pioneers. That morning beginning at 9 a.m. the West Florida Genealogy Society (WFGS) will hold a free Family History Day at the Bayview Senior Center at Bayview Park. They will have over 40 genealogists to work with you to find your Panhandle ancestors.

The Society will have transcriptions of marriage records and censuses of 19th century Escambia County as well as computer specialists to research online genealogy services free to participants.

Also available are data on Panhandle families already researched by the WFGS. There will be specialists in African American and Indian research, too, and much more.

Additionally, there will be free pedigree charts and refreshments.

So start asking your family about any ancestors that lived in this area. Bring their names and, if available, their spouses' and siblings' names and approximate birth years. Also bring any other clues you might have like bible records or birth and death certificates. Anything that will help identify a person from 1920 or earlier.

For links to more genealogy resources, such as the Florida State Genealogy Society, visit the WFGS online at www.rootsweb.com/~flwfgs/index.htm.

If you plan to attend or have questions, e-mail the society at wfgs2008@yahoo.com.
