Injury riddled Lady Dolphins go 1-4 in Gulf Shores Tournament
Gulf Breeze loses four tourney games by a total of seven runs

Under normal circumstances, it'd be a curse for a team to go 10 days in between games. But for the Lady Dolphin softball team, it could turn out to be a blessing.
Gulf Breeze played in the 12-team field at the Dolphin Classic, hosted by Gulf Shores High School and held at the Orange Beach Sportsplex. GBHS lost three of their starters due to injuries during their five games in the tournament (where
they went 1-4), losing those
four games by a
combined seven
runs.
Fairhope 8, Lady Dolphins 7
(seven innings)
GBHS left the bases loaded twice in an extra inning loss to Fairhope Friday. Games in the Dolphin Classic were on a 75-minute time limit. The final two innings used the
international tiebreaker,' where the final out of the previous inning starts the next inning on second base.

triple. She scored
on an error. Rosie Atkinson singled and scored when
Catherine Lewis
reached on an error.
Charlsie Langley walked and scored on a Kori Ewens single. The Lady Dolphins
tacked on three more runs in the fourth inning. Alexis Castanon, running for Ginny Coady, who walked, scored on a single by Zuniga.
Ewens followed with a single before Claire Koontz hit a double, scoring Ewens.
Fairhope scored twice in the top of the seventh, but Gulf Breeze mustered only one in the bottom half. Koontz scored when Langley reached on an error.
Zuniga struck out five and walked only one in seven innings, allowing seven hits.
Leroy 5, Lady Dolphins 4
The Lady Dolphins were held to only three hits. Zuniga tripled in the first inning and scored on a wild pitch.
Catcher Natalie Newell took a foul ball off her wrist in the second inning.
In the bottom half of the second, Coady tripled and Lewis walked. Both of them scored when Castanon reached on an error.
Lewis singled in the fourth to score Coady, who reached on an error.
Mallory Mead struck out five and walked three in four innings. She allowed only three hits.
Robertsdale 5,
Lady Dolphins 2
A pair of freshmen - Breezy Paulus and Adrian Culpepper - made their varsity debuts in a loss to 6A power Robertsdale.
Paulus pitched the first 1 2/3 innings, walking two and allowing five hits with two strikeouts. Culpepper pitched the rest of the four inning game, striking out one and allowing only two hits. She walked one and drove in the Lady Dolphins'second run with a single in the fourth. Lewis, who went 2- for-2, doubled in the second to score Castanon, who walked.
Lady Dolphins 10,
Montgomery Catholic 0
Zuniga threw a one-hit shutout, striking out a pair, as the Lady Dolphins rolled in their opener in the single elimination tournament.
Gulf Breeze took a 5-0 lead in the first inning. Zuniga and Ewens led off the inning with singles. Koontz was then hit on the ankle with a pitch. She stayed in the game, but would sit out Gulf Breeze's next game.
Atkinson, who went 3-for-3, singled to score Zuniga, who went 2-for-3. Ewens, who went 2-for-2, scored on a wild pitch. Alverson, who went 2-for-3, singled before Culpepper and Mallory Mead hit back to back run scoring singles. Alverson's single in the third inning scored Atkinson, who doubled.
Zuniga led off Gulf Breeze's three run fourth with a triple before Ewens took a pitch off her wrist.
Zuniga and Castanon, who went in to run for Ewens, scored on fielder's choices hit by Koontz and Alverson. Atkinson singled and scored on a Culpepper single.
Gulf Shores 2,
Lady Dolphins 0
The defending Alabama 5A state champions held Gulf Breeze to only one hit Saturday.
Culpepper had the team's only hit, a single in the fourth.
Lady Dolphins 18, PHS 0
(five innings)
GBHS scored in every inning, including 11 in the fifth inning to blank the Lady Tigers Thursday.
Atkinson went 2-for-5 with two RBIs and scored twice, while Langley went 2-for-3 with three RBIs.
Newell scored two runs as did Koontz and Ewens. Zuniga went 2-for-3, scored twice and pitched the first two innings, striking out two.
Mead got the win, going three innings with four strikeouts.
