Dolphin rally falls short 8-5
Navarre takes early 6-0 lead, as GBHS strands 11

Jason Thompson/Gulf Breeze News Mark Waghalter threw a one-hit shutout in his first start of the season Saturday.
The Navarre Raiders scored six in the first two innings of an 8-5 win at Gulf Breeze Friday.

The Raiders got five hits in the first inning off Cody Warford before Thomas Dorsey came in to pitch the next 4 2/3 innings. Dorsey allowed five hits and only one walk and struck out four.

After stranding two in the first and second innings and another in the third, Gulf Breeze (7-4) scored all of its runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Kolton Hanke, who went 3-for-4 and scored once, led off the inning with a single. He'd eventually score on a throwing error. Shane Dorlag, who also had three hits, followed with a single, as did T.J. Jordan.

Kameron Brunty reached on an error to score Dorlag, while Corey Downs beat out an infield single to score Jordan. Brandon Scott's flyout scored Brunty, while Dane Monnin's two-out single brought home Kris Matsoukas, who was hit by a pitch.

Gulf Breeze would leave two runners on base in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings for a total of 11 in the game.

Jordan went 2-for-5 and scored once in the loss.

Dolphins 19,Washington 2

After being held to only three runs in the final two games, Gulf Breeze doubled that in the first inning alone, added eight in the third to roll over Washington March 4.

Brunty doubled in the Dolphins' six-run first to bring home Dorlag, who walked, and Jordan, who singled.

Matsoukas, who went 3- for-3 and scored three times, singled and scored on a two-run single by Downs, who went 2-for-2 and scored twice.

Patrick Vance's sacrifice scored Downs, while Bo Dobson's RBI double scored Scott, who doubled.

The game was a breakout one for Scott, who went 3-for-4 with five RBIs and three runs scored. Scott drove in one run with a double in the second and followed with a grand slam in the third, scoring Spencer Wiley, Matsoukas and Caleb Brown.

Matsoukas and Downs added RBI singles in the third inning, while Vance followed Scott's shot with a solo homer. Schnackenberg drove in a run with a groundout, while Wiley capped off the inning with a single, scoring Shane Pascoe and Trey Pfeiffer.

Dane Monnin got the win, striking out six and allowing only two hits in the first three innings.

Waghalter made only his second appearance of the season, striking out three in the final two innings.

Alabama Christian 9-0,

Dolphins 6-10

The Eagles, based out of Montgomery, scored seven in the first two innings to take game one, but Waghalter, making his first start of the season, threw a complete-game, one-hit shutout in the five-inning nightcap.

Ben Lively pitched 4 2/3 innings in relief of Monnin and Warford. Lively struck out five and walked only one, allowing only one hit until giving up two in the sixth.

Lively also drove in the Dolphins' first run with a single in the second inning, scoring Scott, who singled. Scott went 2-for-3 and scored once.

Brunty, who went 2-for-3, hit a two-run homer in the third inning. Jordan, who went 2-for- 4 and scored twice, doubled to set the stage for Brunty.

The Dolphins added another run in the fifth when Jordan singled and scored on a bases loaded fielder's choice with two outs. Matsoukas successfully slid around a tag attempt at third to allow the run to score.

After the Eagles made it 8-4, the Dolphins cut the deficit in half with two in the bottom half. Waghalter and Dorlag were hit by pitches to lead off the inning. Brunty drew a one out walk before Matsoukas was hit by a pitch to plate Waghalter. Downs then hit into a fielder's choice to score Dorlag.

Gulf Breeze left runners on in every inning and had 10 in the game. The Dolphins would convert baserunners into runs in game two, scoring five of their 10 runs with two outs.

Dorlag led off the bottom of the first with a solo homer. Gulf Breeze tacked on three more with two outs in the third.

Matsoukas' sac fly scored Monnin, who hit a leadoff single and went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Jordan, who singled earlier in the inning as part of his 3-for-4 effort, scored on a double steal with Brunty, who also singled. Vance followed with a single to score Brunty.

Wiley walked and scored on a wild pitch in the fourth before a two-run homer by Jordan in the fifth ended the game.

Scott hit a solo homer to start the five-run fifth. Monnin hit an RBI single to score Vance (who walked) and Dorlag's sac fly scored Dobson, who also walked, setting the stage for Jordan.

Waghalter struck out six and walked only one to get the victory.

Dolphin JV 7, Navarre 7

Gulf Breeze led 7-0 after four innings, but the Raiders put up a five-spot in the fifth and added single runs in the sixth and seventh to salvage a tie with the Dolphins Friday.

Stephen Robbins and Robyn Hoffpauir both scored twice in the tie (which ended that way so the varsity game could start at 6:30).

Ball allowed four hits and struck out four in four innings. Trey Davis pitched the fifth and sixth before Jackson Yates struck out three in the seventh.

Dolphin JV 10,Washington

0 (five innings)

Ball and Davis combined for a three-hit shutout and seven strikeouts, while Hoffpauir went 3-for-3 and scored twice.

Robbins went 2-for-3 and scored three times, while Isaac Davis doubled and scored twice.

West Florida 1

Ball and Ben Lively combined on a two-hitter, striking out eight, while Josh Suelflow had two hits, two RBIs and scored two runs in the Dolphins' win over West Florida Feb. 29.
