Pensacola Beach U15 team wins second straight tournament
U13s team finishes in second

Jason Thompson/Gulf Breeze News Two straight for U15s Pensacola Beach Volleyball Club's U15 team won the inaugural Randy Pounders Memorial Open Saturday at the University of West Florida. The Pensacola Beach U15 volleyball team won its second consecutive tournament on Saturday, winning their age division at the inaugural Randy Pounders Memorial Open Saturday at the University of West Florida.

The U15s won the nine team field of a tournament named for the former Catholic High coach that was instrumental in putting high school volleyball on the map. He passed away last June.

The U15s won Pool C by defeating the Mobile Storm 25- 16, 25-11 and the Navarre Volleyball Club 25-10, 25-11.

They then defeated Pleasure Island 25-17, 25-9 as Lindsey Hawthorne served the final five points of a close game one.

PBVC then defeated the Eastern Shore Volleyball Club 25-7, 26-24. The Barracudas didn't lead in game two until 25-24, fighting off two game points to get there. They then closed out the match.

In the championship game, it was no contest as the Barracudas scored 23 of the last 31 points of game one.

The Barracudas' second U15 team lost to the ESVC 25-17, 25-15 and to the Pleasure Island 15s 25-18, 25-19.

The PBVC U13 team, coached by former Lady Dolphin Holly Almony, lost a tough three set match to Volleyball Pensacola, the host team, in the championship game. Volleyball Pensacola won the final 25-15, 19-25, 16-14.

The Barracudas got to within 14-13 in game one before VB Pensacola scored 11 of the last 13.

They took a 4-0 lead on their way to winning the second game and had a match point at 14-13 before VB Pensacola scored the final three points.

They opened pool play with a 25-15, 25-22 win over Volleyball Pensacola and beat the Mobile Storm 25-15, 25-12.

The two Barracudas team met in the first round of the single elimination portion of the tournament, with Almony's team winning.

The '13-2' team lost to the Mobile Storm 25-21, 25-14 and to the Eastern Shore Volleyball Club 25-11, 25-19.

The U14 team split a pair in round robin play before losing to Volleyball Pensacola's 'A' team in the first round of single elimination play.

The U14s beat the Lava 25- 14, 19-25, 15-12 and lost to the Mobile Storm 25-19, 25-19.
