Dolphins lose late lead, game to Jaguars
Gulf Breeze (4-2) led 3-2 going into the final inning. Thomas Dorsey, who got out of a bases loaded jam in the fifth in relief of starter Cody Warford, gave up a pair of hits to start the seventh. With a 2-0 count, Brandon Scott came in pitch. After narrowly missing on a 2-2 pitch, Scott walked his first batter to load the bases. Scott couldn't get a hold of a high chopper as the tying run scored. A wild pitch, the first of the game to get by catcher Kolton Hanke, allowed the go ahead run to score. Gulf Breeze took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a two out solo homer by Kameron Brunty. The Jags tied it in the top of the second before Gulf Breeze added two in the fourth. Scott singled with two outs before Corey Downs doubled. Kris Matsoukas, who went 2-for-3, singled to score Scott and Downs. But the Jags would score one in the fifth before taking the lead for good in the seventh. Dolphin batters struck out 11 times in the loss. Jay 3, Dolphins 0 The 2A Royals, who went to state last year, held the 4A Dolphins to only one hit Thursday - a seventh inning, two out single by Patrick Vance. Corey Downs pitched the first three innings, striking out two and walking three, while allowing only one hit. Dobson pitched the final three, struck out two and allowing two hits and no walks. Dolphins 16, PHS 1 (five innings) There may have be a big power outage in South Florida earlier in the day on Feb. 26, but that wasn't the case in Gulf Breeze. The Dolphins continued their torrid early season hitting pace, scoring seven in the first and eight in the fourth of a fiveinning win over the Tigers. It was their third mercy rule win in four days, beating W.S. Neal and Flomaton by 18-3 and 15-3 scores the previous Saturday. Gulf Breeze scored all seven of its first inning runs with two outs. Corey Downs, who went 3-for-3 and scored twice, doubled to sore both T.J. Jordan and Kameron Brunty, who both singled. Kolton Hanke then doubled to score Downs. Scott and Downs both walked and scored before a two-run triple from Dorlag scored both Vance and Dobson. The Tigers scored their lone run in the top of the fifth on a walk and two Dolphin errors. Dane Monnin pitched the first four innings, allowing only three hits and striking out a career-high nine, while walking only two.
