Lady Dolphins 30, PHS 0
Gulf Breeze erupted for 21 runs in the first inning alone against PHS, capitalizing on 11 Lady Tiger errors, as they went on to hammer PHS 30-0. Gulf Breeze pounded out 26 hits in the win, with Lindsey Wright collecting three of them in the first inning alone. She finished the game going 4-for-6 with four runs scored and two RBIs. Rosie Atkinson, who went 2-for-5 and scored four times, hit a two run single in the inning. Kori Ewens, who went 3-for- 4 with three RBIs and two runs scored, hit a pair of RBI singles in the first inning. Claire Koontz, who went 3-for-5 and scored four times, hit a three-run double in the inning and finished the game with 10 RBIs. She added a three-run triple in the second inning that scored Alexis Castanon, Wright and Alison Milam, who went 3-for-6 and the plate with an RBI and five runs scored. Castanon was 2-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored. Mallory Mead added a two run double in Gulf Breeze's five run fourth, while Natalie Newell and Charlsie Langley added RBI singles. Deannette Zuniga went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs scored, while Natalie Alverson went 4-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBIs. Milam allowed only one hit, while striking out seven. Lady Dolphins 7, Catholic 5 Gulf Breeze rallied from a 5-0 deficit, scoring seven in the final three innings Friday in Pensacola. Atkinson singled and scored the first of her three runs on a passed ball in the top of the fifth. It was the team's first hit of the game. Catherine Lewis walked before Castanon was hit by a pitch with two outs. Zuniga and Ewens followed with walks, with Ewens' scoring Lewis. Milam was then hit by a pitch to score Castanon. In the sixth inning, Ewens singled with two outs to score Mead, who walked, to tie the game at 5. Atkinson walked and scored to lead off the inning. Gulf Breeze's only other hit, a single by Alverson, scored the game-winning run in the top of the seventh. The hit scored Koontz, who walked. Zuniga then walked to bring in Atkinson, who was hit by a pitch. Zuniga struck out a pair and gave up four hits in two-plus innings, while Milam pitched the final five innings to get the win. She struck out nine and didn't walk a batter, allowing only one hit. Milton 4, Lady Dolphins 2 Gulf Breeze scored for the first time since Feb. 8, but six errors were too much to overcome in a loss at Milton. The Lady Panthers scored twice in the first and third innings before Gulf Breeze cut the lead in half in the sixth. Alison Milam reached on an error, as did Deannette Zuniga before Natalie Alverson drove in both with a single. Alverson's base hit was one of only four in the game. Rosie Atkinson, Ginny Coady and Alexis Castanon had singles in the first, fifth and seventh innings, respectively. Zuniga allowed only two hits in two-plus innings, walking three and striking out two. Milam pitched the final five innings, not allowing a single hit and striking out 11. Milton JV 7, Lady Dolphins 1 Mallory Mead tripled and scored on an error for Gulf Breeze's only run, before Milton scored seven unanswered. Mead allowed only three hits, striking out 10, but walking six. Sam Diaz had the team's only other hit, a single. Navarre ninth grade 10, Lady Dolphins 7 The Lady Raiders rallied from 7-3 deficit in the final two innings to beat Gulf Breeze for the second time in eight days on Feb. 26. Adrian Culpepper had three hits - two doubles and a triple - with two RBIs and three runs scored, while Caroline Waghalter had a single, a double, and scored once. Breezy Paulus pitched three innings in relief of Lindsey Hawthorne. |
