The Junior League's Bargain Sale The Junior League of Pensacola will host its annual bargain sale, to be held at the Hadji Shrine Temple on Friday and Saturday, March 7 and 8. The annual shopping extravaganza provides the community an opportunity to purchase gently used goods at bargain prices while benefiting the community projects of the Junior League. The sale will feature thousands of items including house wares, furniture, clothing, books, electronics and more. The Bargain Sale kicks off on Friday from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. The price for admission is $1 at the door. On Saturday, March 8, the event is open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. and items will be discounted by 50 percent.

Gulf Isle Neighbors Remember that the Gulf Isle Neighbors announced a change of venue for their Flash n' Fashion Fundraiser to the larger facilities of the Pensacola Civic Center. This Gulf Isle Neighbors fundraiser will be on Wednesday, March 12. Brenda Carraway of the Fashion Connection will present fashions. Proceeds from this event will benefit The Zoo Northwest Florida and Salvation Army. There will be lots of door prizes and some outstanding raffles with an approximate value of $5,000. Some raffle examples are a condo for one week at the Island Hilton Head, NC, two nights and dining gift certificate at the Hilton Garden Inn on Pensacola Beach; two nights, breakfast buffets at Hampton Inn in New Orleans; two nights, two dinners, two shows at the Beau Rivage in Biloxi, Miss.; one night and dinners at Treasure Bay in Biloxi, Miss. and two nights at the Hard Rock in Biloxi.
The doors at the Civic Center open at 10:30 a.m., luncheon at 12 p.m. and fashion show at 1 p.m. Come join us for a delightful experience and support these worthwhile charities. The Gulf Breeze Hospital Auxiliary A reminder that the Gulf Breeze Hospital Auxiliary's St. Patrick's Day card party for is scheduled for March 14 at the First Presbyterian Church. Fitness for the Golden Years Select Physical Therapy offers an exercise program for senior adults over 50 years of age at the Gulf Breeze Recreational Center. Classes are from 9 to 10 a.m. on Tuesday and Thursday. The first class is free and subsequent classes are $2 per class or $12 per month. To participate you must have a medical release form from your physician. The instructor for this program is Clary Padgett who has 10 years experience in this field. Padgett, originally from Sweden, came to the United States in 1972. She was a licensed practical nurse in Sweden and became a licensed massage therapist in the U.S. in 1984. Emphasis is placed on seated stretching and strengthening, low impact aerobics, muscle strengthening and toning with resistance. Padgett says, "The routine includes warm-up exercises in the chair, progresses to a standup work-out, on to balance work, then to strengthening with therabands, some abdominal drills and ends with a stretching routine." Currently there are about 15 seniors, including a couple of men in the class. But there is plenty of room for more golden people to participate in the program. Adventure Club The Adventure Club that is sponsored by the Center for Lifelong Learning on the University of West Florida (UWF) campus in Fort Walton Beach offers its March Activity Schedule: Thursday, March 6, 3 p.m - Bike ride in the Valparaiso area. Saturday, March 8, 10 a.m. - Bike ride in historic downtown Mobile and after lunch enjoy the current exhibit "Our Body: The Universe Within" and IMAX "Wired to Win - Surviving the Tour de France" at the Gulf Coast Exploreum Science Center in Mobile. After the ride the group will go to Harry and Elaine Olson's place in Sandestin for a bite to eat and a glass of wine. The Olson's are our long time snowbird members. The members bike, hike, kayak, canoe, travel and more. They have three activities per week and one or two overseas trips per year. The Peanut Wagon is Back! The Peanut Lady has offered her Peanut Wagon to the Navarre Garden Club on March 15 and 16 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Look for them on Highway 98 and Prado Street across from the Navarre Park in the Pak and Fax parking lot. All proceeds will go towards building the Navarre Garden Center. The Peanut Wagon has been a landmark in Navarre for many years. The club will be selling floral arrangements for Easter delivered to your home. Delivery will be on Thursday and Friday, March 20 and 21. Miraflores Garden Club The Miraflores Garden Club has been in existence since April 1965. Maxine Coe first came up with the idea and contacted several of her friends and neighbors who were struggling with their garden enemies and so jumped at the chance to join a garden club. Presently, the club has 28 active members and 20 sustaining members. The club meets once a month from May to September. Programs include field trips, guest speakers, and various projects. The current club officers include Beth Sellers, president, Beverly Pica, vice president, Teresa Wallace, secretary, Marguerite Burr, treasurer, and Tracy Mulroy, parliamentarian. Programs for this year include "Medicinal Uses of Herbs" with Dr. Finley Holmes, "Palm Trees" with Larry Morris at Pensacola Seed and Garden, "Creating Holiday Wreaths" from native plants by "The Garden Gate," "Bees by Simmons Apiaries," "Plants that Attract Bird Migration" at Rancho La Orchidia in Milton, and Providence Hospital's 15th Annual Festival of Flowers. The Mobile Flower Show is the premier flower and garden event of the greater Gulf Coast. Landscaped gardens, a world of flowers, designer table-scapes, and activities for children are some of the items that are featured at the show. The show lasts through Sunday, March 9.
