Amnesty Day is March 15

Disposal of household hazardous waste will be offered at no charge and there will be e reduced Rate for Small Businesses.

The 2008 Amnesty Day, which offers Santa Rosa County residents the opportunity to dispose of household hazardous waste at no charge, is scheduled for March 15 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. For this year's event,materials will also be accepted from conditionally exempt small quantity generators including small businesses, schools and growers at a reduced rate. Small quantity generators must call 850-981-7135 by 12 p.m. on March 14 to schedule a drop off time. Calls will be accepted from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Adrop off site will be located in the south end at the Santa Rosa County South Side Service Center, 5819 Gulf Breeze Parkway in Midway. For north and central county residents, a drop off site will be located at the parking lot of the Santa Rosa County Administrative Complex, 6495 Caroline Street in Milton, behind McDonald's. This is a new location and HHW will not be collected at the county auditorium. Residents and small quantity generators can dispose of motor oil, gasoline, up to five gallons of antifreeze, oil filters, lubricants, greases, paint, solvents, pesticides, batteries, fivegallon propane bottles, pool cleaners, household cleaners and computers, all items that should not be thrown out with your household garbage.

Tires, general debris or household garbage will not be accepted as part of Amnesty Day. Amnesty Day is made possible by Santa Rosa County in cooperation with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and Jim Reece of the Okaloosa County Environmental Office. Zoo to host Easter Bunny, 5K run

On the weekends of March 8-9, 15-16 and 22-23, The Zoo-Northwest Florida will host "Brunch with the Easter Bunny." From 9-11 a.m. on Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sundays, the Easter Bunny will visit with guests as they enjoy a light breakfast and tour The Zoo.

For brunch and a souvenir photo of your child with the Easter Bunny, the cost is general admission plus $5 per child.

Admission rates are $11.50 for adults ages 12 and up, $10.50 for seniors ages 62 and up and $8.25 for children ages 3 to 11.

The Rotary Club of Navarre is sponsoring a 5K Run/Walk and 1-Mile Fun Run to take place April 5. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the event will go to benefit The Zoo-Northwest Florida.

Participants may pick up packets on April 4 from 1-5 p.m. at the Pullum Family YMCA in Navarre and on race day at the public parking area.
