Soccer seniors sign scholarships
Collins to play at South Alabama; Robles at UWF
BY JASON THOMPSON Gulf Breeze News jason@gulfbreezenews.com

For the third consecutive year, the Lady Dolphin soccer program will have at least one player moving on to a fouryear school. On Feb. 20, goalkeeper Ashley Collins signed with the University of South Alabama, while midfielder Noelle Robles signed with the University of West Florida the following day.

"This is s big day for Ashley and a big day for me, too," GBHS head coach Sharon Kerby said. "Anytime you can send a player to a Division I school, that's pretty awesome."

Collins posted seven consecutive shutouts in 2008, allowing only 0.55 goals a game.

"With my club team (based in Birmingham), I'm always travelling," said Collins. "I realized when I was away from home that I wanted to be somewhere close to home. It's far enough away I have some independence, but it's close enough so Mom can watch me play."

Collins is the second Lady Dolphin in as many seasons to sign with the Mobile school. Kristi Lee, a 2007 GBHS grad, started every game as a defender for last year's 9-7-3 Lady Jag squad.

Robles, the only four-year starter on this year's Lady Dolphin squad, will join former teammate Kaley Morris on the 2008 Lady Argo squad. Morris graduated from Gulf Breeze two years ago.

"It's a real honor for me to have one of my players at UWF since I played there," said Kerby, who played at UWF from 2001-05.

Robles scored five goals and had 11 assists as an outside midfielder for the 2007- 08 Lady Dolphins, who advanced to the state tournament for the second consecutive year.

"I'm excited about it. There's just so many reasons," Robles said "I just love the atmosphere at UWF. I just wanted to stay close to home so I can have some fans."

Robles joins a growing list of Lady Dolphins that have played at UWF. Others include: Brandi Adams (2003- 07), Michelle Gorman (2002), Heather Hutchins (1994-96), Sara Morehouse (1996-97), Summer Savage (2006-07) and Kim Zammitt (1994-95).
