GBPD investigates shooting, earns cocaine proceeds Police are investigating a possible attempted suicide. On Feb. 17 Gulf Breeze Police responded to a medical call at the 200 block of Pensacola Beach Road. Officers entered, along with emergency medical crews, and found an unnamed female suspect with a gunshot wound to the left chest area. Authorities found a gray 9 millimeter handgun, and the residence showed no signs of forced entry. Police did not determine if the wound was self-inflicted, but a friend told police that the suspect was really depressed and acting strange. "The incident is still under investigation," said Police Chief Peter Paulding. The chief said the suspect could face charges for firing a weapon inside city limits. According to Paulding, there is no law against an attempt to commit suicide. In other news, the Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office has awarded two local police departments a portion of the financial proceeds that were seized during a lengthy investigation related to a large conspiracy involving the distribution of cocaine. Gulf Breeze Police Department received a check for $8,404.00. "We shared the forfeiture of a drug case that we participated in," Paulding said. "We're not sure what the money will be used for, and that usage will be determined by state law... It can not be used for for normal operating equipment." GBPD assisted SRSO in an investigation that began in 2005 that resulted in the arrest of 23 suspects. |
