The Gulf Breeze Dolphin basketball team staged furious fourth quarter comeback, but Jeff White's runner from 10 feet rimmed out as they lost 45-43 to Milton in the first round of the District 1-4A Tournament Feb. 5 at Woodham Middle School.

Down 36-25 after three quarters, Gulf Breeze (14-12) hit three 3-pointers in the final quarter. "We were down 11, then we decided to play,"" coach David McGreal said.

The game was tied at 12 after one quarter before Milton outscored the Dolphins 15-8 in the second quarter and 9-5 in the third quarter.

"We couldn't throw it in the ocean," McGreal said.

Dustin Clements, who went 4- for-6 from the field and 6-for-8 from the line for a team-high 14 points, fouled out in the fourth quarter trying to grab his eighth rebound. The putback would've made it a one-point game.

Gulf Breeze forced a turnover with six seconds left, giving the Dolphins one last chance at a tie or a win.

Bryan Shreve added eight points, while Erik Mims had seven, David Hibberts four, Alec Cann and Matt Catellier three each and White and Marcus Smith two each.

Hibberts had five rebounds, while Smith had three assists and Mims three steals.

Gulf Breeze's 14-12 seasonending mark is the first time since 2000 that the Dolphins have had a winning record.

"If you would've told me that we'd lose Matt Patrick in game two, Dustin Clements would play in only 13 games and we'd win 14 games, I would've told you you're crazy," McGreal said.
