Barnhill's closes; CVS is building in Tiger Point

Changes are coming to the Tiger Point area.

The Barnhill's Restaurant on Hwy. 98 and Oriole Beach Road was closed as of press time.

The Barnhill's chain, including restaurants in Gulf Breeze in Pensacola, was purchased by StarBuffets. The previous owner, Dynamic, recently filed for bankruptcy.

An assistant manager that worked at the Gulf Breeze location said that store was not included in the original purchase, but that the new owners of the other Barnhill's were working to close a deal on the Oriole Beach restaurant.

"I worked at the Gulf Breeze location for 14 years," said Assistant General Manager Sheri Bowers. "I had at least 10 sets of regular customers at Gulf Breeze. This is the third corporation we've gone through."

Bowers said the Pensacola store had hired three of her former employees from Gulf Breeze and she was working to have a couple more in place very soon.

Meanwhile, CVS is planning to build a new pharmacy at the location of the closed Pizza Hut Restaurant, 3327 Gulf Breeze Parkway and is expected to open in late July.

"We do not have employment opportunities to announce at this time given the early stages of this project," said CVS Public Relations Director Mike DeAngelis.

CVS is currently a tenant in the Winn Dixie shopping center.
