GB trash schedule changes March 1
Garbage collection will be reduced from twice a week to once a week; and recyclable collection will change from weekly collection of 18-gallon bins to every other week collection of new 96 gallon carts. There will be no change to yard waste collection which will still be picked up on Wednesdays. Yard waste material must be bagged, bundled or in bins. Monthly fees for standard curbside service will decrease from $17.68 to $16.50 under the new schedule. Steve Milford, special project manager, said city hall received numerous calls about garbage collection in recent weeks. "We get five to 10 calls per day," Milford said. "A lot of those are people asking how to qualify for discount rates." Milford added that about half of the calls were in reference to the new schedule start date. Garbage collection will take place on Mondays for all houses on interior of the Shoreline / Fairpoint loop; Tuesdays for all houses on exterior of the Shoreline Fairpoint loop and west of Hwy 98; Thursdays for all houses east of Hwy 98 and on every other Friday recyclables will be collected on alternate weeks throughout the city. Any household can elect to use a second container for excess wastes, and there is an extra $6 charge for the second container each month.
