Lady Dolphin weightlifters' season concludes

Jason Thompson/Gulf Breeze News Good lift Ashley Thibodeaux completes a successful bench press during the Lady Dolphins' final meet of the season Jan. 30. Thibodeaux was one of two GBHS lifters to qualify for the recent sectional meet.

The Gulf Breeze High girls weightlifting team completed the 2008 season Jan. 30 with a three-team meet at home against Milton and Pace. The Lady Dolphins were second (27), with Milton taking first (55) and Pace third (20).

Samantha Diaz won her weight class, while Brittany Wheeler and Adrian Culpepper finishing in second.

Emily Retherford, Lauren Halstead, Sarah Thibodeaux, Katherine Landry, Chelsea Ballenberger and Ashley Thibodeaux were third, while Ginny Coady and Jordan Carr were fourth.

Coady (150 lbs. lifted), Wheeler (275) and Ashley Thibodeaux (260) set school records this season for their weight classes, with Wheeler's being the second highest total in school history. Thibodeaux's is fifth. Adrienne Randel (class of '07), the only state tournament participant in school history (she's went three times), is first with 300 lbs. lifted.
