Dolphin wrestlers take third at district
Eight wrestlers qualify for regionals

The Gulf Breeze High wrestling team will send eight wrestlers to this weekend's Region 1-A meet at Palm Coast Mantanzas High School.

Those eight wrestlers placed in the top four at last Saturday's District 1-A meet at Arnold High School in Panama City Beach. The Dolphins were third in the eight-team district, the highest finish in school history. They had 149.5 points, third to Arnold (206) and Bozeman (185).

Gulf Breeze had three district champions - John Stanley (152 lb. class), Kyle Chavers (160) and Taylor Retherford (171). GBHS had two runners up in Brandon Buchalter (135) and Tanner Eagley (145).

Those five, along with Kyle McKissack (third in 140), Jesse Parsons (third in 189) and Jason Pendergraph (third in 215) will wrestle at regionals. The following is a wrestler-by-wrestler breakdown from the district meet:

Holden Tibbs (103) - pinned by Miller (Bay) at 3:37, pinned by Philips (PCA) at 1:35.

Devan Dunlop (112) - lost to Newhorne (Bozeman) by decision 9-10, pinned by Jekel (PCA) and 4:40.

Rett Ellis (119) - pinned by Ramirez (PCA) at 3:56, lost to Sawyer (Bozeman) by decision 9-11.

Jeffrey Smith (125) - pinned by Bucy (PCA) at 0:47, pinned by Bartlett (Bozeman) at 1:10.

Stephen Houser (130) - pinned by Fowler (Wewahitchka) at 3:27, lost to Johnson (PCA) by decision 1-9.

Buchalter (135) - pinned Horton (Bozeman) at 5:05, lost in final to Moore (Arnold) at 2:48.

McKissack (140) - pinned Kibbie (Arnold) at 5:40, pinned by Smith (Bay) at 3:03, pinned Ranaldo (Marianna) at 3:38, pinned D'Auteuil (Bozeman) in consolation final at 3:32.

Eagley (145) - pinned Bush (Arnold) at 3:11, lost in final to Young (South Walton) by decision 5-12.

Stanley (152) - beat Corbin (Wewahitchka) by decision 8-6, pinned McAdams (Arnold) at 4:37, beat Stanford (Bozeman) in final in overtime by decision 10-8.

Chavers (160) - pinned Bragg (Arnold) at 0:14, beat Ramos (Bozeman) in final by technical fall 19-4.

Retherford (171) - pinned Monroe (Arnold) at 1:20, beat Blake (Bay) in final by decision 9-7.

Parsons (189) - pinned Sherman (Bay) at 1:32, lost to Richardson (Wewahitchka) by decision 7-8, pinned Henninger (South Walton) at 4:57, beat Gray (Bozeman) in consolation final by decision 9-0.

Pendergraph (215) - pinned by Papa (Bozeman) at 1:40, pinned Liscomb (South Walton) at 4:44, pinned Bruce (Arnold) in consolation final at 4:10.

Tyrone Covyeow (heavyweight) - pinned by Hendrix (Bozeman) at 2:21, pinned by Gibson (Arnold) at 3:23.
