GB man pleads guilty to hurricane fraud Gulf Breeze resident Stephen P. Wehner pleaded guilty last week to a federal indictment that charged him with two counts of making false statements to the Small Business Administration (SBA). In pleading guilty, Wehner admitted that he made a series of false statements to SBA following the disaster declaration the President of the United States entered as a result of Hurricane Katrina. On two separate occasions in October 2006, while living in Gulf Breeze, investigators say Wehner applied for low interest disaster relief loans, claiming an address in New Orleans as his primary residence. Wehner claimed that he suffered more than $27,000 in losses of personal belongings in the New Orleans residence damaged by the storm. |
