The Wild Wacky Wonderful Red Hats of Navarre

Jan. 17 was the first outing for the area's newest Red Hat Society Chapter, the Wild Wacky Wonderful Red Hats of Navarre. The group met at Sailor's Grill on Navarre Beach for their inaugural outing. The weather was chilly but that didn't cool off the enthusiasm of this energetic group of ladies. Queen Mother Margie Henson organized the Wild Wacky Wonderful Red Hats and also created the clever feather headpieces worn by each member.

The Red Hat mission is to gain higher visibility for women over 50, reshape the way they are viewed by culture and the way they view aging. The group gives themselves permission to have fun and to go for the gusto, their mission statement says. Membership includes bragging rights of belonging to the greatest women's dis-organization in the world.

Membership in the Wild Wonderful Red Hats of Navarre will be limited to 15. If you are interested in joining them for fun and sisterly companionship contact Queen Mother Margie Henson 850-936-5753.

The Interfaith Ministry Food Pantry needs food. The pantry's food supply is quickly depleted when filling orders for needy families. The following is a listing of the items most in need at the moment: small bags of sugar (less than five pound bags), tea bags, small cans of coffee (less than three pound cans), pancake mix, pancake syrup, ketchup, mayo, mustard, boxed spaghetti noodles, Italian dressing, potato chips, peanut butter, jelly, boys and girls pull-up diapers, diaper rash cream, baby wipes, dry milk and toilet paper. Gulf Breeze Rotary Club

As usual, the Rotarians of Gulf Breeze are busy doing many things, helping with many needs, planning many events and accomplishing many goals. The Gumbo Cook-Off is scheduled for Saturday, March 1.

In the Jan. 8 meeting, International Service Chair Cherry Fitch and Sparkie Folkers spoke about the Rotary Club's mission trip to Peru. Folkers discussed what the Rotary does for the underprivileged in a small town outside of Lima located on the side of a mountain. In this small town, the poorest people live the highest up the mountain. All supplies must be brought up the mountain by hand or by hand and foot.

The next Rotary Trip to Peru will be Feb. 2 through 10. The group, which will consist of Rotarians from around the district along with some non- Rotarians, will be building houses in the area of Project Hope outside of Lima.

The cost to participate is about $1,600, which includes air, hotel, transportation and meals. A $100 deposit is needed to secure a spot. It is only $500 to sponsor a house to be built in Peru and sponsorships are open to the public.

The Rotarians are always working. Contact Sparkie at 850- 932-0595 or sparkie@folkers.com if you are interested in participating.
