The Gulf Breeze boys basketball team was unable to complete a season sweep of Navarre Thursday.
Brian Shreve's buzzer-beater in Navarre gave the Dolphins the win in the two teams first meeting. Navarre, however, would allow for no such chance in the second match-up of the District 1-4A rivals, beating Gulf Breeze 65-49.
Gulf Breeze opened the game with a 5-0 run, capped off by a Zach Andrews' three-pointer. In keeping with the lightning quick pace of the game, Navarre would quickly counter with two threes of their own to take the lead 6-5.
The Raiders would not look back as they kept, and expanded, the lead for the remainder of the contest.
A Gulf Breeze win would have put them solely into third place in the district. The loss, however, has allowed Navarre (9-9, 3-5) to move into a tie with the Dolphins (11-9, 3-5).
Dustin Clements, who missed the first game vs. the Raiders, led Gulf Breeze with eight points. Marcus Smith and Jeff White both scored five, and David Hibberts added four. Charlie Windfelder scored a game-high 21 points, and Brandon Penn added 20 to lead Navarre to the victory.
