City of Gulf Breeze serves seniors
The city Utility Department offers a Senior Citizens Program that offers a 10 percent discount on garbage pickup for individuals over 65. They can also turn your natural gas off in the spring and turn it back on in the fall for free upon request. If you are a senior living in Gulf Breeze, you can call 934-5110 for more information and get details on many rebates and special services offered. The city's Community Services Department offers free Occupational License registration for senior citizens as well. If you have a business in town, you can register it for free by calling 934- 5109. And the Gulf Breeze Police Department can add your home to a 'watch list' if you are going to be out of town. They have a 'Seniors vs. Crime' program which is senior volunteers investigating civil crimes against seniors. Many seniors have diverse skills and training that make them eligible for and interested in the volunteer 'Volunteer in Policing' (V.I.P.) program. V.I.P volunteers receive training and then drive extra, off-duty, police cars around the City to deter speeding and keep a watchful eye on the city. Contact the Police Department at 934-5121 for more information. Located in the heart of Gulf Breeze is the Recreation Center. Always a hub of community activities and organized sports, the Rec Center is also a haven for seniors. Senior citizens will find a monthly senior luncheon, card games and many other senior-related activites. For details on the luncheon, call Pat Fransca at 934-4571. Also at the Recreation Center is 'Chair Aerobics,' sponsored for active seniors by NovaCare every Tuesday and Thursday at 9 a.m. Call 932-6382 for details on these specially designed activities that safely build strength and stamina, but should not stretch you beyond your healthy ability. You will use a chair in a more passive way when you enjoy a bridge game for seniors on Monday and Friday. Call Sid at 932- 1739 for information on this mentally challenging and socially satisfying event. "The City is anxious to provide all City services in the most convenient, easy to access manner possible for their senior citizens," Eddy emphasizes. " Please email us through our website at cityofgulfbreeze.com or call 934-5115 with questions or comments. We want to serve our community well." |
