The Japanese New Year Celebration will feature matsuriza taiko drummers, martial arts demonstrations and Japanese music and dance. Jewelry art workshop offered Jewelry artist Connie Nabholz will present a two-hour workshop at the Jan. 26 meeting of the Santa Rosa Art Association, Inc. Her hands-on lesson, entitled "Border Wrap Pendant," will teach how to bezel a cabochon with sterling silver wire and make a unique pendant. Tuition for SRAA nonmembers is $10, plus a $10 kit fee. The workshop is from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26, in Building 4900 at the Pensacola Junior College campus in Milton. Each participant is asked to bring any wire working tools she/he already owns, a pin vise, and a 6- inch ruler. No reservations are necessary for the workshop. The biggest item of business at that meeting will be preparing for the annual fine art show, ArtFest, which is scheduled for Feb. 9-10 at the Santa Rosa County Auditorium. Artel hosts Kreg Yingst Artel Gallery announces the next in its Art Explorations series: "A Visual Voice: The Wordless Woodcut Novel" by Kreg Yingst will be Wednesday, Jan. 30, at 5:30 p.m. Kreg Yingst holds a master's degree in painting from Eastern Illinois University. His work has twice been selected for purchase by the Cinco Banderas Collection and he was one of three artists chosen for Artel's 2007 "In Depth: Body of Work III" exhibit. High School Musical 2 showcase to benefit the Zoo Broadening Education Through Arts (BETA) will hold a three day intensive musical theatre workshop Jan. 31, Feb. 1 and 2. Training will include proper and healthy vocal techniques, secrets of singing for success, stage movement, acting, microphone, and audience techniques. Learning routines from the fabulous hit music from Disney's "High School Musical II" will be the focus, ending with a showcase on Saturday evening, Feb. 2. Class times are Thursday, Jan. 31 from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, Feb. 1 from 4 to 7 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 2nd from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. All youth between the ages of 5- 15 are invited to participate. Preregistration is required by Jan. 28. The workshop will be held at the Community Life Center in Gulf Breeze located at 4115 Soundside Drive in Gulf Breeze. Grades kindergarten through 12 will be represented, and all mediums will be accepted. The exhibit will run from Feb. 1 through Feb. 28 with Gallery Night being held on Feb. 8, from 6-8 p.m. Santa Rosa County school teachers can participate by simply recommending a few of their best students to enter a work of art to this show. All work will be returned to the owners after the exhibit. Participants can drop off their art at the Dovetails gallery on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. All entries need to be delivered to Dovetails Art and Frame no later than Jan. 30 to be accepted for the showing.
