Last year's Dolphin baseball team hoped to be one of the top teams in the state. While they won 17 games, they didn't get out of the district tournament.

So they'll just have to settle on being the smartest.

The Dolphins were named Academic State Champions recently by the Florida High School Athletic Association. The Dolphins received their plaque in the mail last week.

The 2006-07 Dolphins had a 3.465 team grad point average.

Each team received a plaque, while the overall winner in each sport also received a monetary award. Orlando's First Academy was the overall winner (3.535).

Gulf Breeze was the only one receiving a plaque - PHS was the overall winner in girls soccer (3.699), while Niceville's girls (3.65) and boys (3.525) swept the 5A soccer awards.

Jay won the 1A football award (3.359).
