COMMUNITY BRIEFS Landscape mulch made from chipped Christmas trees, disposed at five sites in Santa Rosa County, is now available at no cost to the public at the Greenup Nursery, located at 6758 Park Avenue in Milton, and the Santa Rosa County Southside Service Center's recycling site located at 5841 Gulf Breeze Parkway. The free mulch is offered on a first-come, firstserve basis in small or large amounts. The tree mulch is high in nitrogen and great for general gardening. Residents are responsible for filling their own bags, truck or trailer and will need to bring a pitch fork or shovel. The public is encouraged to call the Green-up Nursery at 850-623-1930 or the Santa Rosa County Recycling Department at 850-623-9349 to confirm availability. Christmas trees can be still be disposed at the following five sites until February 27: Quintette Recycle Area at the Five Points Intersection Gulf Power recycle area on East Spencer Field Road Across from Pace Water Company on Woodbine Road Tiger Point recreation area in Gulf Breeze, east of Wal-Mart Santa Rosa Clean Community System, Inc.'s Green-up Nursery, 6758 Park Avenue Street maps for the county recycling locations can be found by visiting http://www.santarosa.fl.gov/recycle/ index.html. Pelicans sponsor reading challenge The Pensacola Pelicans are hosting "Scoop's Reading Challenge," a free, incentivebased literacy initiative for K-8 schools in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties.
