Area swimmers back on campus early

While many college students return to campus this week, several former GBHS swimmers have already 'returned to work' at their respective schools.

Jay Schmitz (GBHS c/o '07) helped Rollins to take third out of 10 teams at the College Winter Invitational Saturday in Daytona.

Schmitz was the third leg on Rollins' third in the 200 yard medley relay (1:42.07). He was also 15th in the 200 yard butterfly (2:32.16) and 12th in the 100 butterfly (1:00.31).

Jeff Holway (c/o '05) and Stevi Steinhauer (c/o '06) helped Florida State win a three team meet Saturday in Jacksonville.

The men's team beat North Carolina Wilmington 130-104, and the women beat both UNCW 144-87 and North Florida 146-84.

Steinhauer was the anchor leg on FSU's 400 yard medley relay team (3:57.74), while Holway was the anchor leg on the FSU's winning team in the same event (3:30.18).

Both also competed in the 50 yard freestyle, with Steinhauer taking second (24.43) and Holway third (21.91).

Morgan Tibbs (c/o '07) helped Florida Gulf Coast University swim team win a pair of matches over the weekend.

Schmitz
On Saturday, FGCU defeated Saint Louis University 108-66. Tibbs was the anchor leg on FGCU's fourth place finish in the 200 yard medley relay (2:21.42).

On Sunday, FGCU defeated Indian River Community College 135-70, but lost to Penn State 151-54.

Tibbs was eighth in the 200 yard butterfly (2:23.18) and the 500 yard freestyle (5:38.94). She was also the third leg of FGCU's fifth place 400 yard freestyle relay team (3:58.82).
