College students keeping busy with work during holiday break
BY HANNAH BUNNING Gulf Breeze News news@gulfbreezenews.

Hannah Bunning/Gulf Breeze News Right: Katie Haney, a University of Florida sophomore, is working at Flowerama for her Christmas vacation. She enjoys the work because she gets to work with flowers and see a lot of people.
It's that time of year again, and that doesn't just mean cleaning up after lots of presents, wrapping paper and countdowns to the New Year. It means that biyearly influx of college students looking for things to entertain them until the spring semester starts up again.

So what exactly are the students doing over their Christmas vacation? Well, their activities are pretty reliable - a seasonal job and spending some much needed time with family and friends.

"I decided to get a job over the break because I needed a little extra cash for extra expenses at school," said Katie Haney, a sophomore at the University of Florida.

Haney has been working at Flowerama throughout her vacation and found it to be exactly the kind of job she wanted for the holidays. She decided to work at Flowerama because she had worked there previously and thought that it would be a fun holiday job.

"I enjoy seeing all the people and working with the flowers. It's just a fun atmosphere," Haney said.

Evan Brown, a junior at Eckerd College, had a similar experience over his Christmas vacation. Brown is working at Papa's Pizza in Gulf Breeze and catching up with old high school friends.

"I work there because my dad owns the place and I like to help him out. Plus, I always have a job," Brown said.

Despite their enthusiasm for their Christmas jobs, most college students are looking forward to heading back to school for the spring semester.

"I am excited about everything! England! Broadening my horizons and learning about the world outside the U.S.," said Anne Foss, a junior at the University of Florida, who is studying abroad in London for the semester.

Summer holidays are just around the corner though, and it won't be long until they are all home again and looking for more ways to earn back the cash that seems to disappear throughout the semester.
