GBHS finished eighth with 123 points behind Niceville (237.5), Ocala Forest (170.5), Live Oak Suwanee (164), Tallahassee Lincoln (153), Wakulla (146), Panama City Mosley (139) and Tallahassee Chiles (135). More ... The Gulf Breeze Dolphin football team found out early last week that they will stay in District 1-3A for the next two years. They also found out they wouldn't be doing as much travelling as was feared. The Florida High School Athletic Association released the 2009-10 and 2010-11 state football series assignments. More ... Next week's inaugural Dr. Alec Kessler Memorial Basketball Tournament in Gulf Breeze will serve two functions - 1) it honors the memory of former Georgia Bulldog and Miami Heat player, and Andrews Institute surgeon who died unexpectedly last October and 2) it gives the basketball junkie (like me) 12 games to watch in three days. More ... Mississippi State-bound Aubrey Curington scored a pair of goals in a three-minute span early in the second half as the Lady Dolphins pulled away in 5-1 win over Pace Dec. 16. The game was a reunion of sorts for many GBHS players, who've played either on PFC or Bayside with several Pace players. More ... Niceville's Spencer Vandecar scored with two minutes left to give the Eagles a 1-0 win at Gulf Breeze Dec. 17. The loss was the second time this season the Dolphins have lost in the closing minutes of a match. GBHS lost to Bolles 1-0 the previous week on a goal with about eight minutes left. More ... The Lady Dolphin basketball team split a pair of District 1-4A games last week, winning on the road at West Florida before losing at home to Washington. Lady Dolphins 44, West Florida 32 Gulf Breeze used a 14-4 second quarter to pull away from the Lady Jags Dec. 16 in Pensacola. More ... The Gulf Breeze Dolphins got another double-double from Dustin Clements and a careergame out of Bo Peardon as they rolled over Alabama 6A Foley 81-49 Saturday in the Santa Rosa Shootout in Milton. Clements led the Dolphins (5-5) with 20 points (on 7-for- 10 shooting) and grabbed 11 rebounds. More ... The Gulf Breeze High swim team held their annual banquet recently at Surfburger.
