Sacred Heart clears Tiger Point property

Sacred Heart Health System is completing preliminary site work to prepare a 10-acre property in Tiger Point for future development of a medical office complex along U.S. Highway 98.

Detailed plans for the overall project have not been finalized, and no date has been set for the start of construction. However, Sacred Heart plans to use part of the site to build office space that will replace the current Sacred Heart Medical Group offices in Tiger Point, located about a mile away on U.S. 98.

Last year, Sacred Heart sold the land on which its present Tiger Point is located and is leasing that building until the new facility can be constructed on its U.S. 98 property east of Lowe's. The contractor for Sacred Heart is still under way with the preliminary site work, and crews will be creating storm-water ground swales and grassing the site to provide a presentable appearance until the balance of the work is complete.

Life Line Screening

Residents in the Gulf Breeze area can be screened to reduce the risk of having a stroke.

A Life Line Screening will be held at St. Ann Catholic Church on Wednesday, Dec. 10, with appointments beginning at 9 a.m. The complete screening package includes a new Heart Rhythm screening and checking for irregular heartbeat, which is a major risk factor for stroke.

A stroke, also known as "brain attack," is the third-leading killer in the world and the leading cause for nursing home admissions. Stroke often occurs without warning, but painless screenings can help identify risk for stroke, vascular disease or osteoporosis early enough for physicians to begin preventive procedures.

Cost is $149. For more information, call 1-877-237-1287 or visit www.lifelinescreening .com. Pre-registration is required.

Swenson Park Christmas

The communities of Gulf Breeze and Santa Rosa Shores are invited to enjoy the Santa Claus in Swenson Park celebration from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 11.

The event, sponsored by the Santa Rosa Shores Homeowners Association and the Santa Rosa Shores Women's Club, will include plenty of hot and cold beverages along with cookies. It's a great way to see old friends, make new friends, let the children play and welcome in Christmas 2008.

Santa Claus will arrive with his surprises and treats with the Midway Fire Department at 7 p.m. Santa will greet and meet all the children (big and small) and take their requests for Christmas. He loves letters from the children. Pictures also will be taken with Santa.

In the event of rain, the celebration will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 16.

To learn more, call Margaret Cunningham at 932-2914 or Darlene Richards at 748-9446.
