Brown sings at GBUMC Sunday

      Gulf Breeze native and Broadway star Ashley Brown will sing for her home congregation at Gulf Breeze United Methodist Church during three worship services - at 8 a.m., 9:30 and 11 - on Sunday, Nov. 30 at the main campus at 75 Fairpoint Drive.

Holiday Parade scheduled for Dec. 13
      Gulf Breeze's 2008 Holiday Parade and SantaFest!, a post-parade block party, are scheduled for the city beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 13. The events are sponsored by the Gulf Breeze Area Chamber of Commerce. The deadline for parade application and entry fee is Dec. 5. Entry fee is $25 for businesses and $10 for non-profit organizations.

Majestic bird
     Gulf Breeze resident Brian Finger photographed this Bald Eagle near his home on Peakes Point on Wednesday, Nov. 19. Local bird experts say this adult eagle, which has an American Coot in its claws, was probably migrating from Alaska to south Florida for the winter. Bald Eagles were absent from the area for many decades but are slowly making a comeback.

Optimist Club Christmas trees now on sale
      Gulf Breeze Optimists' annual Christmas Tree Sale began Nov. 22, and the Marines were there. They helped both to set up the tree lot at the corner of Gulf Breeze Parkway and Andrew Jackson Trail and assist members with setting up Christmas trees during the sale.

Meisters return to Gulf Breeze from Destin
      Chuck and Jeannette Meister recently moved back into their home in Hickory Shores following their service of 13 years to the City of Destin. Chuck assumed the position of City Engineer just three weeks before Hurricane Opal struck on Oct. 3, 1995. Jeannette began her service in Destin as a volunteer following Opal.

Zoo Lights begins annual popular attraction at Zoo-Northwest Florida
      Zoo Lights, The Zoo- Northwest Florida's annual holiday event, is set to begin Friday, Nov. 28. It will be held from 6-9 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings Nov. 28 through Dec. 13 and nightly Dec. 18-27. The event will be closed on Dec. 24-25. A special Members Night will be held on Dec. 4, in which all Zoo members will get in free.

Gulf Breeze's Gray elected school board chairman
      Ed Gray III of Gulf Breeze is the new Santa Rosa County School Board chair. He was elected chairman last week by the other school board members at their re-organizational meeting. Previous chair Joann Simpson passed the gavel to Gray at the Nov. 18 meeting. The vice chairman for the next year will be Diane Coleman of Navarre.

      Gulf Breeze has been the home to Publix Super Markets for six months, and the community has already begun to feel the benefits. Publix, now managed locally by Chad Sutherland, has partnered with or donated to many organizations, including Gulf Breeze Elementary School, Oriole Beach Elementary School, Tiger Point Sports Association and many others.
