The result gave Wakulla the win 18-16 in the decisive game. More ... The Gulf Breeze Dolphins and Navarre Raiders, although they're big rivals, have more in common than they'd care to discuss. First off, both of their seasons have been long - the Dolphins are 1-8, while the Raiders are 2-7. Second - despite their records, both teams could have earned spots in three-way shootouts for second with wins last week and some 'help. More ... Michala Nowak and Ross Gunn will compete in two events at Saturday's 2A state swim meet in Orlando. Nowak will compete in the 100 and 200 yard freestyles, while Gunn will compete in the 100 yard backstroke and the 200 yard freestyle. More ... The Gulf Breeze Lady Dolphin cross country placed five in the top nine and the seven in the top 15 to win the District 1-2A championship Saturday in Pace. Gulf Breeze finished with 22 points, 50 points better than second place Wakulla. Florida High (81), Arnold (101), Tallahassee Godby (140) and Catholic (149) also qualified for Saturday's regional meet in Jacksonville. More ... Playing in their first five-set match of the season, Gulf Breeze had a pair of match points, but Wakulla would fight them off, winning a 23-25, 20- 25, 25-19, 25-10, 18-16 decision in bizarre fashion. The Gators are in the SEC Championship Game and are ® poised to make a push for a national championship appearance if all works out in their favor. They moved up to #4 in the latest BCS Poll, which is exactly where they were ranked in Week 11 of 2006. From the looks of things, all the Gators need to do is win out and they'll be in the title game. More ... The checklist of things to accomplish for the 2008 season has shortened considerably. Previous items included: Win East Division [X], Win SEC Title [X], Play for National Title [X]. All of the lofty goals for the preseason #1 team have been x-ed off the list leaving a few, less-gaudy accomplishments for the taking. One is beating conference rival Auburn. More ... Losing to Alabama was bad. Losing in overtime was worse. Being eliminated from SEC title contention threw salt in the wound. But seeing their old coach exit Tiger Stadium victorious, with all of the goals LSU hoped to accomplish this season in his pocket had to hurt more than anything else. Don't blame Saban. The problem is the man taking the snaps. More ... A win over Clemson was huge for a couple of reasons. Most importantly, it kept the Noles' ACC title ® hopes alive. It also removed the monkey off their backs; FSU has defeated Clemson only twice in the past six years. This team could've easily lost its edge after falling to Georgia Tech, but the Clemson game shows they have character. More ... The Canes had two weeks to prepare for a huge game tonight against Virginia Tech. This rivalry traveled from the Big East to the ACC Coastal Division, and is once again carrying conference title implications. The loser is firmly out of the race for the Coastal Division. More ... Where is Kevin Smith when you need him? UCF has now lost four straight and seven of its last eight. The offense managed only six points and 208 total yards against a USM defense that ranks among the bottom half of Division I teams. The Knights have barely eclipsed the 2,000-yard mark through nine games; Smith had over 2,000 himself last year. More ... If the Bulls have any fight in them, expect to see a complete performance this Saturday against Rutgers. USF is coming off an embarrassing blowout on national television and the Scarlet Knights are the team that handed the Bulls their first loss in 2007 and knocked them out of their #2 ranking. More ... The Eagles have won two-in-a-row and two more will make them bowl-eligible. That's amazing, considering they had a five-game losing streak just a couple of weeks ago. Finishing the season strong will definitely increase the amount of support for and confidence in firstyear coach Larry Fedora, who didn't have much of either a short time ago. More ... |
