Lucky #7? Well, not yet
Your favorite sports writer began his seventh year at the Gulf Breeze News last Thursday. Despite the number, it hasn't gotten off to a great start. Year seven began Thursday with the Lady Dolphin volleyball team dropping a four-set match to Washington in the district final, which they hosted.

ALABAMA (#1)
The last time the Crimson Tide was ranked #1 during the regular season was 28 years ago. There's TM no time to bask as the Bama rolls into Baton Rouge to take on LSU Saturday. Though the Tigers have struggled, they cannot be taken lightly.

AUBURN
Another week, another loss, another round of "Is Tommy Tuberville done?" rumors. They've lost ® four straight, and I'm running out of ways to say, "the offense struggled again and something has to change." It appears nothing is going to change and AU will not go to a bowl game.

FLORIDA (#5)
A win at Vandy puts Florida in the SEC title game, where they will likely face BCS #1 ® Alabama. If you ask me, the Gators are the best of the SEC, maybe the nation. Their average score this season is 42.9-11.6. It's an amazing feat to average 31- point victories against SEC competition.

GEORGIA (#13)
For those who say the stomp didn't play into last weekend's game, just ask the Dawgs. That's exactly what the Gators did to them. Missed opportunities and mistakes allowed UF to generate more momentum than any team could overcome. Georgia is now firmly removed from the national title conversation, and one UF win away from elimination in the SEC East race.

LSU (#16)
Though the Tigers are out of the national championship picture, they still have plenty to play for, especially this weekend. Nick Saban returns to Tiger Stadium for the first time, and you can bet LSU would like nothing more than to spoil his perfect season and re-emerge into the SEC championship picture. The question is can they stop anybody.

FLORIDA STATE (#22)
FSU controlled its own destiny for all of one week before losing to Georgia Tech on a horrifying fumble near the goal ® line. That fumble prevented the potential game-winning touchdown or a game-tying field goal, and could possibly prevent the Noles for playing for an ACC title. One scenario puts them in: The Noles run the table and Wake Forest loses.

MIAMI
Miami kept its ACC title hopes alive by defeating Virginia in overtime. These Canes just don't seem to quit. When they're not turning the ball over, they can be one of the toughest teams in the conference. After a bye-week, they are set to play two of the toughest teams in the ACC, Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech, over the next couple of weeks.

CENTRAL FLORIDA
UCF is not officially eliminated from bowl eligibility, but sometimes the truth doesn't require mathematics. Unless they run the table over the last four games, the Knights will not be bowl eligible. But who would want to watch a team this bad play in a bowl game?

SOUTH FLORIDA
USF needs this week off to recover from two straight Big East losses. The Bulls went from conference frontrunner to forgotten in exactly one month. They are no longer ranked and one must wonder if their #2 ranking midway through last season will forever be the high point of their program's history. Hey, at least they're bowl eligible.

SOUTHERN MISS
70-14? Where has that been for the past five weeks? USM absolutely demolished UAB. It just goes to show that a bunch of competitive guys with their backs against the wall can be extremely dangerous. The Eagles avoided a losing season for one more week and the good news is that trend should continue.
