Tillman retires after 22 years
      Lt. Col. John L. Tillman has retired from the U.S. Air Force after 22 years of military service. In his last assignment, Tillman was a battle captain with the Joint Staff Joint Logistics Operations Center Logistics Directorate at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.

'Fighting 17' squadrons to reunite at NAS
      The F6F Hellcat World War II Navy warriors are coming to Pensacola. Navy squadrons VF-17/VF-18 will have their annual reunion Nov. 13-15 at the Pensacola Naval Air Station (NAS). They will be staying at the Crown Plaza Hotel downtown, where they will hold squadron meetings and from which they will be transported to and from NAS.

Cancun's purchase still pending
      The nation's credit crunch is delaying the online auction purchase of the Cancun's Mexican Grill property in Gulf Breeze. The prospective buyer, whose identity is being kept confidential, now faces a Nov. 15 deadline to close the $664,300 deal, after receiving yet another extension last week from the U.S. Marshals Service.

Navarre mourns Slocum's passing
      Flags at the Holley-Navarre Fire stations are at half-mast this week in memory of late Fire Chief Les Slocum. Slocum, 58, died Friday from colon cancer. His passing came one day before he was to start his official retirement from the department. He had taken a leave of absence in September due to his illness.

Safari wedding unites local couple
      Lyndi Freeman of Pensacola and Dave Kessler of Gulf Breeze were married July 30 while on safari in Kruger National Park in the Republic of South Africa. Six months in preparation, the marriage was performed by the Rev. Dr. Jan Vink of the Baptist Union of South Africa and Commissioner of Oaths.

Beach businesses plan eventful holiday season
      "Season your holidays with island spirit" is the them of Pensacola Beach's holiday promotion. Holiday events begin Saturday, Nov. 29 and continue through New Year's Day. Events include: • Season Lights Up. 7 p.m., Nov. 29. A tree-lighting ceremony will follow with caroling at the Quietwater Bandshell on the boardwalk.
