Early detection vital step to fight breast cancer

Early detection is the key to beating breast cancer, and knowledge is the most powerful weapon you can have in your arsenal.

For instance, did you know that while older women are more likely to get breast cancer, it can also affect women in their 30s or even in their 20s? Or that women whose mothers, grandmothers or siblings have had the disease are at greater risk for getting breast cancer, but that breast cancer statistics are increasing among women with no family history of the disease?

An informative breast cancer seminar will be held Tuesday, Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. in the Locklin Education Center located behind Santa Rosa Medical Center in Milton. Facilitated by OB/GYN John Ervin, M.D., the panel of physicians also will include Radiologist Jimmy Barnes, M.D., Surgeon Randall McKissack, M.D. and Oncologist Tom Sunnenberg, M.D. They will discuss the latest information concerning diagnoses, surgery, radiation therapy and chemotherapy. They also will be available to answer any questions you may have.

This seminar is free, but preregistration is recommended. Call 626-5113 to reserve a seat.
