GB falls in triple OT
Dolphins lose tough one 35-34 to West Florida; Milton up next
For the second consecutive week, the Gulf Breeze Dolphin football team played well enough to win, only to get the short end of the stick. The most recent of them was a 35-34 triple overtime loss to West Florida at Woodham Middle School - the Jaguars' first ever win over the Dolphins (1-5, 0-1 in District 1-3A).

Ramblin' On
Fire may be low, but it's not out
"The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy." - Dr. Martin Luther King While they may not be controversial times, they're certainly challenging ones for the Dolphin football team.

Brunty draws praise from Southern Miss coach Doug Baldwin (GBHS Class of 2007) caught 5 passes for 37 yards, including a 13- yard touchdown, to help Stanford beat Arizona 24-23 Saturday. The touchdown catch marked the third straight game Baldwin's found the end zone, a team-high.

ALABAMA (#2)
UA is 22-1 all-time vs. Ole Miss in Tuscaloosa. I expect that trend to continue as Bama should win this one with ball control. Here's why: Bama is 1st in the SEC in rush offense; Ole Miss is 9th in rush defense. Though UA is 11th in pass offense, the Rebs are last in pass defense. Bama is 1st in time of possession; UM is11th.

AUBURN
AU has lost 3 of 4 and is unranked for the first time all season. They have recently fired the offensive coordinator, and several of their best defensive players are out or playing with injuries. There is no better time for the Tigers to have a week off.

FLORIDA (#5/7)
Wow!!! What more can be said? The Gators' offense silenced its critics by dropping 51 on the vaunted Tiger defense, which was only allowing 15.2 points per game. The defense also turned heads by limiting SEC rushing leader Charles Scott to 35 yards rushing. UF is firmly back in the BCS title race, and Tim Tebow has re-emerged as a Heisman Trophy candidate.

GEORGIA (#10/9)
UGA is quietly working back into the SEC and national championship picture. The Dawgs are 5-1, but the next three games against Vanderbilt, LSU and Florida (all ranked) will make or break them. The bad news is that UGA will have to run the SEC gauntlet after losing yet another starting offensive lineman, left tackle Vince Vance, for the season.

LSU (#13/14)
Where's Bo Pelini when you need him? LSU's defense was frighteningly porous last weekend as UF gashed them for 475 yards and 51 points. LSU still controls its destiny in the SEC West. But against its only first-class opponent, the Tigers looked horribly inferior. Maybe it was the wake-up call LSU needed to help it reach its full potential.

FLORIDA STATE
FSU will take on N.C. State tonight in a game that probably scares Noles fans to death. FSU is 2-3 in their last five games at N.C. State. There is, however, no reason to believe they' ll lose this one. FSU leads the ACC in scoring; N.C. State is last in scoring defense. The Noles are 1st in total offense/defense; the Wolfpack are last in both.

MIAMI
After throwing only one interception in its first three games, Miami has given away eight INTs in the last three. For once, it didn't cost them the game. On the flip-side, the Canes have only collected three interceptions in all year, which is worst in the conference.

CENTRAL FLORIDA
The Knights 2-4,1-1) are still mathematically alive for a Conference USA crown and a bowl berth. Massive improvements are needed to accomplish either of the two. The Knights are 108th in scoring offense, 111th in passing yards, 85th in rushing yards and 119th in total yards. The defense isn't much better. It is 90th in passing and 76th in scoring.

SOUTH FLORIDA (#19/20)
Before losing to Pitt on Oct. 2, the Bulls had emerged as the favorite to win the Big East. Now they will need some help. USF must now win out and hope for a Pittsburgh loss. The good news for now is that the Bulls will likely even their conference record at 1- 1 this weekend.

SOUTHERN MISS
The Eagles' season started nicely. USM was impressive through its first three games. But the last three, all losses, have all but ended the Eagles' (2-4, 0-2) hopes of competing for a conference title and put their chances of a bowl berth on life support. USM must win four of it's last six to become bowl eligible, which does not assure them a spot.
