Gulf Breeze United Methodist helps Kentucky's poor

Thirty-two members of the Gulf Breeze United Methodist Church family representing a cross section of both campuses, traveled to the Henderson Settlement in Frakes, Ky., on a mission trip.

Henderson Settlement, located about 700 miles north of Gulf Breeze, is a United Methodist mission outpost in one of the poorest places in America. Bell County, Ky., ranks in the first 2 percent in the national poverty ranking.

GBUMC's mission team participated a variety of projects to upgrade the facility so that Henderson can continue to offer significant ministry in the midst of the Red Bird Missionary Conference (the regional entity of the Methodist denomination that focuses on Appalachia).

Watch for further details on the trip in a future issue of Gulf Breeze News.

St. Ann Catholic

Dr. Richard Johnson, an expert and author on the challenges of care giving, will lead a workshop on the topic from noon to 4 p.m. in the Parish Hall at St. Ann, 100 Daniel Drive in Gulf Breeze.

Many people are called into the care-giving role with very little, if any, preparation. The obligation often results in feelings of conflict. It's common for caregivers to feel love, concern, empathy and compassion, while at the same time they also can feel anger, frustration and impatience.

Johnson will offer some straight answers that will help you serve your loved one's needs without ignoring your own. For more information, call 932-2859 ext. 234.
