Niki's owners say opening is this week
      Several months ago, the sign went up in the Live Oak Shopping Center, and locals began to remember the pizza, sandwiches, lasagna and Greek dishes that were favorites at Niki's former location which Hurricane Dennis destroyed in 2005.

Stork makes delivery at Zoo
      The Zoo Northwest Florida welcomed a new baby hippopotamus on Saturday, Oct. 4, born to two of The Zoo's resident hippos, Cleo and Kiboko. Zookeepers named the 65- pound calf "Kayin," which means "long-awaited child" in Swahili. It is still too early to tell if the calf is male or female.

Democrats plan rally in Navarre
      The final regional Democratic Political Rally sponsored by the Santa Rosa Democrats will be held in Navarre on Saturday, Oct. 18, from 2 until 4:30 p.m. The event will be held in Navarre County Park, located on U.S. Highway 98 west of the bridge to Navarre Beach. The free event will feature beverages, hot dogs and chili plus musical entertainment.

Troop 417 completes first Eagle Scout project
      Boy Scout Troop 417 of Gulf Breeze recently kicked off its first Eagle Scout project. Sixteen scouts and eight adults representing Gulf Breeze Troops 417, 484 and 11 worked a total of 115 hours on Sept. 13 at St. Ann Catholic Church. They were there to help support Ryan Mulroy on his Eagle Project.

Peninsula Homeowners re-form
      The United Peninsular Homeowners Association has been reborn. UPHA is made up of various homeowner associations on the south end of Santa Rosa County to bring the particular needs of this are to the attention of the county commission and state officials. UPHA was a viable and influential organization before Hurricane Ivan.

Plan now for 'Breezing through Holidays'
      Mark Thursday, Nov. 6, on your calendars. That's when the GFWC Santa Rosa Woman's Club presents its Breezing Through the Holidays program. The event will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church Parish Hall, 100 Daniel Drive. Lunch will be created and served by Elaine's Catering.

Jordans celebrate 60 years of matrimony
      Bert and Dorothy Jordan of Gulf Breeze recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with a dinner at Skolepos with family. They met during childhood and became sweethearts in McKenzie, Ala. Bert graduated from the University of Alabama's Medical School. Dorothy graduated from Judson (Ala.) College. They were married Sept. 10, 1948 and moved to Gulf Breeze in 1969.

      St. Ann Catholic Church will host a family health fair that will include something for everyone Saturday, Oct. 18 from 9 a.m. to noon in Nickelson Hall. "Everyone in the community is welcome to attend this special event," Parish Nurse Diana Odenbrett said. "All ages are invited.

Rotary's Reverse Raffle set for Tuesday
      The Rotary Club of Gulf Breeze will hold its annual Reverse Raffle from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 on Oct. 21 at Apple Annie's in Seville Quarter in Pensacola. The grand prize is $4,000 in cash; second prize is $1,000; and third prize if $500. Proceeds from the event will be used within Gulf Breeze for education and community projects, including the Rotary Scholarship fund.
