Pyramid Artists show nears end
      September is a big month for Pyramid Art Students. Their long- awaited art show at Artel Gallery, 505 South Adams Street by Seville Fountain Park, began on Sept. 9 and is continuing until the Friday the 19th. They have over 50 paintings entered in this show. Most of the paintings have not been seen by the public. The students have worked all year creating their entries.

Swartz appointed to Midway Fire Board
      Reese Swartz, a candidate for Midway Fire District Board of Commissioners Seat 2, was appointed Tuesday, Sept. 9, to fill a two-month vacancy on the Board. Swartz, 36, assumed the Seat 2 position formerly held by T.J. Emma, who resigned in July and moved to Georgia.

SRC School Board sets final property sale deadline
      The property owned by the Santa Rosa County School District that serves as home to the Gulf Breeze Chamber of Commerce at 409 Gulf Breeze Parkway had not sold as of Monday. The original bid for the property was accepted in February, but no closing has been held.

Price: GB coaches 'will be paid'
      Gulf Breeze High School coaches last week expressed concern about a new policy regarding compensation when traveling with their teams to out-of-town events. An initial e-mail from the administration indicated that coaches might have to take personal time off to travel with teams as a result of severe budget constraints mandated by the Santa Rosa County School District.

Deadman's Island planting set Saturday
      There will be a planting on Deadman's Island on Saturday, Sept. 20 from 8 a.m. to noon to help stabilize the sand on the north end of the Gulf Breeze barrier island. Hurricanes Gustav and Ike have repositioned sand on and near the island, and vegetation must be planted to prevent further erosion.
