      The filing period is open for the position of Gulf Breeze Mayor and council positions A, currently held by Beverly Zimmern, Seat B held by Carl T. Hoffman and Seat D held by Richard Fulford. Fulford was appointed to replace Councilman Clay Ford when Ford was elected State Representative.

First of Zoo's town hall meetings tonight in Milton

      The Zoo-Northwest Florida will host two public town hall meetings, the first today (Aug. 14) at 6 p.m. in the Student Center at the Pensacola Junior College-Milton campus; the second at 6 p.m. on Aug. 21 in the Boma Pavilion at The Zoo.

Early voting under way
      Gulf Breeze News Early voting for the Aug. 26 primary elections began Monday and runs through Saturday, Aug. 23 at two locations in Santa Rosa County. Citizens can vote at the South Service Center at 5841 Gulf Breeze Parkway, or at the Elections Office at 6495 Caroline Street in Milton.

Sheriff proposes fiscal budget of $30.61 million
      Santa Rosa County Sheriff Wendell Hall has cut 24 employees from his department and will order no new patrol cars for this next fiscal year.

Salvation Army food drive seeks donations
      The Salvation Army of Northwest Florida has launched its fourth annual food drive that will last through Aug. 29. The event is part of a national drive that is collecting food and personal items in every market the Salvation Army serves. All items collected in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties will be distributed to the community by the Salvation Army.
