GBHS athletes shine on national stage
      Celia Eddy has been used to being the 'big fish in a small pond' as a member of the Lady Dolphin volleyball team the past two years. She got to swim with other big fish recently as one of 35 other players at the A-1 Development Camp, sponsored by the United States Volleyball Association. The six-day camp took place in Colorado Springs.

Dorsey repeats as Divot Derby champ
Ryals third overall; Hicks wins 14-15 year-old age group by 12 shots
      Recent Gulf Breeze High graduate Kristen Dorsey repeated as the girls' Divot Derby champion last week, edging recent Pace graduate Haley Millsap by one shot. GBHS junior Ashleigh Ryals was third. The 51st annual tournament was held at Marcus Pointe Golf Club in Pensacola and The Moors Golf Club in Milton.

Varsity cheerleaders win NCA camp
Six earn All American honors; JV team also wins team award
      The Gulf Breeze High varsity cheerleading squad took first place out of 20 teams in the Performance category at the National Cheerleading Association Camp July 25-29 at the University of Georgia. "They did a real good job," varsity cheerleading advisor Grace French said. "They worked as a team and they worked hard when they were broken up in groups.

Lady Dolphins drop pair to Baker
      The Lady Dolphin softball team was up bright and early Saturday for a pair of exhibition games with Baker High from Mobile. GBHS hung tough early in both games before Baker used two late innings to sweep the doubleheader 7-2 and 4-2.

GBHS closes out summer workouts
First day of fall practice Monday, pads out Aug. 14
      While the score says that Gulf Breeze lost 4-3 to Milton in last week's 7-on-7, coach Chris Nemith says the games help him gauge where his players stand. "In a 7-on-7, it puts your secondary in a really bad situation, since there's no pass rush," he said. "Defensive backs have got to have ice water in their veins.

1,500+ runners participate in Bushwacker 5K Run/Walk
      More than 1,500 runners participated in the annual Bushwacker 5K run/walk Saturday, sponsored by the Capt'N Fun Runners. The race started at Shoreline Park in Gulf Breeze and ended in the parking lot in front of the Sandshaker on Pensacola Beach.
