Poll2008 Leadership Summit under way at GBUMC
FAITH
For the third year, the Community Life Center of Gulf Breeze United Methodist Church is serving today and Friday as a host site for The Leadership Summit. The Summit is an annual gathering of 100,000 church, business and nonprofit leaders in more than 230 cities worldwide. Gulf Breeze serves as the host site for the Gulf Coast region and is assisted by other churches from within the region, including Charity Chapel in Pensacola, Destiny Worship Center in Destin, Spanish Fort United Methodist Church in Spanish Fort, Ala., and Woodlawn United Methodist Church in Panama City Beach. Almost 350 leaders from New Orleans to Panama City are expected to attend this simulcast event at the Gulf Breeze site. St. Ann Catholic "Peace, Love and Happiness: A Fashion Show for Jamie Thompson" will be held at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 17, at St. Ann Catholic Church at 100 Daniel Drive in Gulf Breeze. Proceeds from the event will go to offset funeral, medical and related expenses for the family of Thompson, a Gulf Breeze resident who died last Thursday after a lengthy battle with Lupus disease. In 2004, Thompson was diagnosed with Lupus and severe pulmonary hypertension that is stressing her lungs, liver and heart. Lupus is an autoimmune disease that causes antibodies, designed to fight foreign objects in the body, to attack the body's own cells and tissues. The severity of Lupus depends on what parts of the body it affects. Jamie's case is very serious because the disease is attacking her heart, lungs and liver. Jamie's family has struggled to pay her medical bills and copays, and now they are faced with funeral expenses. Several fundraisers have raised more than $6,000, but the bills keep piling up. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at St. Ann's Catholic Church. Contact Linda or Lisa Aguado at (850) 454-9769 to reserve tickets or get more information. Tickets also will be available at the door. GB Methodist There will be blessings of the administration and teaching staffs at GBUMC this Sunday.
