Southern Legacy wins inaugural World Series
      Southern Legacy, a 16-under select softball team made up of mostly Gulf Breeze High players, won the inaugural United Softball Girls Fastpitch World Series Saturday at Exchange Park in Pensacola. Southern Legacy had to win three straight games to win the tournament, including two over the previously unbeaten Clarksville (Tenn.) Missfits.

Wave makes Cal Ripken quarters
      The Gulf Breeze Wave advanced to the quarterfinals of the Cal Ripken Big Kahuna 10- under tournament in Myrtle Beach, S.C. on Friday before losing to the Myrtle Beach Bombers 7-3. The Wave went 4-3 in the 16- team tournament, which featured teams from as far away as New York.

Kasler takes silver at national tourney
      GBHS junior to be Jackie Kasler (above) and her partner Alex Cercone of Seminole, Fla., won the silver ball at the 18s Clay Court Super National Championships in Memphis, Tennessee July 20. They were the sixth seed in the tournament, upsetting the top seed before losing in the finals 7-6, 7-5 to the #2 seed.

Morris spends summer in Maine playing in Women's Premier Soccer League
      Kaley Morris has spent the last two years doing something she loved - playing soccer in college. But she also wanted to do it in another location, having lived in Florida her entire life. So she was able to kill two birds with one stone this summer while playing for the Maine Tide, a new member of the Women's Premier Soccer League.

Lobster season begins next week
      Recreational and commercial harvest seasons for spiny lobster in Florida are set to reopen soon. The special two-day spiny lobster sport season comes first, on July 30 and 31 this year, followed by the regular lobster season, which begins on Aug. 6 and extends through March 31.
