Late dismissal provides challenge for Gulf Breeze High sports
      Most of the high schools in Santa Rosa County will have their schedules drastically changed come August. GBHS, along with Navarre, Pace and Milton High Schools will start at 9:15 a.m. and won't release until almost 4. With this change poses a dilemna for area coaches - when and for how long - do they practice each day.

     Ben Lively, shown here in a 2008 Dolphin baseball game, threw a no-hitter for the Dynamic Elite in a 4-0 win over Hendersonville, Tenn. Friday in a wood bat tournament in Atlanta. He struck out eight in the win.

Recent Dolphin graduates to continue athletic careers
      Cameron Smith and Greg Tober were two big reasons the 2006 Dolphin basketball and baseball teams had .500 seasons or better. They both recently decided to continue their athletic careers - Smith at Southeastern University in Lakeland and Tober at Southwest Mississippi Community College in Summit, Miss.

Declining habitat impacts breeding ducks for 2008
Numbers similar to last year
      MEMPHIS - The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service released its preliminary report last week on mid-continent breeding ducks and habitats, based on surveys conducted in May and early June. Total duck populations were estimated at 37.3 million breeding ducks on the surveyed area.

Breeze Basketball 13s take third at Mid-American Youth Tournament
      The AAU Breeze Basketball 13u team finished third in the recent Mid-American Youth Basketball Tournament in Fort Walton Beach. They won the consolation game 38-28 over the Louisiana Warriors. Jon Jon Burkett led the team with 13 points, followed by Landon Cagle with 11. Marco Pena grabbed 13 rebounds in the win.

Navarre High Principal earns $500 award
     Navarre High School Principal Bill Emerson displays a $500 check he received for being named 2008 Literary Leader among Florida High Schools. The former Gulf Breeze High School teacher and coach became Principal at Navarre threeplus years ago, and the school recently earned A status for academic performance and improvement.
