GBHS back in its 'A' groove; Navarre achieves elite status
      Gulf Breeze High School returned to its accustomed status as an A-rated school after a twoyear period at Level B. Gulf Breeze Principal Sylvan Ladner said he was very pleased with the rating. "I am very proud of the students, teachers, staff and the parents, too," Ladner said. "It takes the support of the entire community to have an A school.

Military Children's scholarship goes to Smith
      Rachel Smith of Gulf Breeze has received a $1,500 college scholarship from the annual Scholarships for Military Children Program. Smith, who graduated from Sigonella High School in Italy in 2006, is the daughter of Tom and Patty Smith of Gulf Breeze. She is enrolled at the University of North Florida.

High praise
     Kelly Johansen, a 2005 Gulf Breeze High graduate, was recently awarded one of only 15 Campbell Scholarships awarded annually from Tau Beta Pi, the engineering honor society. The Florida Institute of Technology senior will receive $2,000 for her engineering studies. During her time at FIT, Johansen has been secretary and vice president of the Florida Zeta Chapter of TBP, as well as vice president of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and a member of Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society. Braving the elements, winning awards
     Scoutmaster Rob Engle led 15 boys and five dads from Gulf Breeze Troop 417 into the Smoky Mountains of North Carolina to Camp Daniel Boone for a week long adventure in scouting. They returned from Cold Mountain having won, among many individual awards, the prestigious Long Rifle Award given to troops that demonstrate scouting excellence!

     GBES physical education teacher Jim Singleton donned a dress and heels since more than 125 students exceeded the requirements for passing the Presidential Fitness Test.
