Businesses open in new development
      Sea Shell Collections, the 89,000-square-foot shopping center recently completed by local developer Moulton Properties, announced the opening of three businesses. Three tenants opened early in July: Tiki Jake's Genuine Neighborhood Shoppe, The Emerald Turtle and Elite Nails.

Poor sales force two restaurants to shut down
      Two Midway restaurants have closed, victims of poor sales likely related to the area's sagging economy. Burger King at 3372 Gulf Breeze Parkway and Moe's Southwest Grill in The Marketplace at Tiger Point recently shut their doors. The stores are located within a mile of each other just off U.S. Highway 98.

Gulf Breeze man hit by SUV on U.S. 98
      Gulf Breeze resident Bryan Beck, 30, was struck by a sport utility vehicle driven by 30- year-old Clenton McClure of Gulf Breeze in the early morning hours of Wednesday, July 9. The accident occurred at approximately 4:40 a.m. on U.S. Highway 98 just west of Green Briar Parkway as Beck was attempting to walk from south to north across the fourlane roadway.

Covenant Hospice plans July 23 seminar
      Covenant Hospice will present a volunteer and information seminar at 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 23, at the Gulf Breeze United Methodist Church Community Life Center at 4115 Soundside Drive in Gulf Breeze. The 45-minute seminar is to educate the public about Covenant Hospice and available opportunities to give back to the community.

Randle tosses hat into Sheriff's ring
      Robert Randle is a candidate for Santa Rosa County Sheriff. Randle graduated from Gulf Breeze High School and the University of West Florida, where he earned his bachelor's degree in criminal justice and completed coursework toward his master's in public administration. In 1997, Randle completed the FBI National Academy.

Roper seeks vote in Sheriff's race
      Chris Roper is a candidate for Santa Rosa County Sheriff. He is a 28-year veteran of the Florida Highway Patrol, 26 of which he served patrolling in Santa Rosa County. Roper, 53, was graduated cum laude with his bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Troy University with a minor in psychology.

Morris, 33, becomes GB Rotary's youngest president
      The 35th president of the Gulf Breeze Rotary Club (GBRC), Charles Dana Morris, 33, is the youngest president in its history. Morris graduated from Gulf Breeze High School in 1993 and from Florida State University in 1996 with B.S. in Political Science, and his Juris Doctorate in 2000 from the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University.

Studer Group invites public to food drive
      The Bay Area Food Bank is experiencing a 30-percent increase in food requests, but because of a 40-percent decrease in supplies it is difficult to feed all who come to its doors in need. The public can help, however, by taking non-perishable foods or monetary donations to the Studer Group-sponsored Food Drive - Sweet Treats for Good Eats - on Friday, July 18, from 11 a.m.

Book sale planned for GB hospital
      The Gulf Breeze Hospital Auxiliary will hold a book sale on Thursday, July 24, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. and again on Friday, July 25, from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. The Books Are Fun book sale will be held in Suite 104 of the professional office building with a large selection of books.
