Grand Marlin groundbreaking
     Joe Culpepper/Gulf Breeze News Principles and dignitaries perform the ceremonial groundbreaking for the Grand Marlin Restaurant and Yacht Club at 400 Pensacola Beach Boulevard on July 4. The restaurant and club will include about 20,000 square feet of space that will feature a fitness center and Gulf Coast Hatteras yacht brokerage service. The restaurant will feature fine dining and wines. The Grand Marlin Marina will provide 62 transient and long-term slips to accommodate yachts measuring 40 feet and longer. Spokesperson Jill Broxson said completion of the project is scheduled for summer 2009.

      I am often asked, "Are you a Conservative?" I guess I am, but it is hard to define one these days. Many of my Southern Democratic friends are Conservatives; there is a Conservative wing to the Democratic Party, and a liberal wing to the Republican Party. Independents can't make up their minds, and Libertarians don't want them to.

Blue Angels pilots 'slip the surly bonds of earth'
      In the movie industry, at one time, theaters offered two movies for the price of one known as a "double feature." We have a kind of double feature in our area, though not at the same time. I'm referring to the celebration of Independence Day this past weekend and Blue Angel weekend this coming weekend - both highly celebrated and eagerly anticipated.

      To make the Pensacola Beach Air Show dress rehearsal on Friday, July 11 and on the show on Saturday, July 12 a memorable and fun experience for everyone, please follow the safety and parking tips. Both events kick off shortly after noon with Julian MacQueen in his amphibious Grumman Widgeon G-44 and culminate with the Blues taking to the sky at 2 p.m.

Trolley will run at the Pensacola Beach Air Show
      Park and trolley to Casino Beach this weekend. To help alleviate traffic congestion, Pensacola Beach will provide trolley service from 9 a.m.- midnight on both Friday and Saturday between Casino Beach and Fort Pickens gate. When parking, please DO NOT block emergency access locations, bike paths, sidewalks or medians.
