Innerlight to host Surf 4 Cystic Sunday on Pensacola Beach Innerlight Surf Shop will be hosting a one day surf camp dubbed Surf 4 Cystic July 13 from 1-4 p.m. on Pensacola. The Gulf Breeze Wave 10- under All Star team took second place out of 12 teams at the Grand Slam World Series of Baseball Saturday in Panama City. The Wave won back to back games before losing to the Home Plate Chili Dogs 9-8 in the championship game. The Wave won three straight games after losing to the Chili Dogs 8-0 to fall into the losers bracket Friday. More ... A pair of former Dolphin swimmers set personal records at last week's Olympic Trials in Omaha, Neb. Kyle Cormier (class of '04), swimming in the first of his three events, improved his personal best in the 200 meter freestyle by almost a second and a half. His time of 1:51.06 was 37th best out of 87 participants - he was 71st entering the competition. More ... While the Major League Baseball's All Star Game is special in the sense that fans had a say, it's also like picking the Homecoming Queen. Usually, it's the prettiest girl (or in this case, the most popular players) get the nods, and they aren't always the most deserving. More ... The Pensacola Beach Volleyball Club's 15-under team, "Barracudas," got off to a slow start last week, but won their final two matches to win their flight at the 2008 Junior Olympic Volleyball Championships in Dallas. One of 48 teams in the 15 National field, PBVC went 0-5 in the first round of pool play. More ... Southern Legacy, a Gulf Breeze based 17-under travel softball team, hosted the Southern Legacy Classic June June 14-15 at Shoreline Park. Southern Legacy had the battle its way through the losers bracket and had to beat the Andalusia Bruisers twice to win the title. More ...
