SRIA turns deaf ear to noise ordinance
      Pensacola Beach's core area residents and nightclubs that play loud music are going to have to learn to coexist, as the Santa Rosa Island Authority did not get the votes needed to enact a proposed ordinance limiting the hours nightclubs can play music.

      When the DeLuna Shopping Center was resurfaced, it was made a one-way parking lot. However, the entrance to the center is at the spot where the road divides, and the double yellow line deters drivers from turning left into the parking lot.

Turtle, shorebird nests halt latest effort to repair beach road
Road work should resume in September
      The Florida Department of Transportation and Gulf Islands National Seashore postponed repairs to the section of the J. Earle Bowden Way from Opal Beach to the western boundary of the Santa Rosa Area. Road work will resume the first week in September. The delay in the road repairs is caused in part by the need to protect sensitive shorebird and sea turtle nesting areas.

Sheriff invited to address crime issue June 25
      Escambia County Sheriff Ron McNesby is invited to attend the Santa Rosa Island Authority's June 25 meeting, beginning at 5 p.m. to discuss crime on Pensacola Beach. Two deputies are on duty at any one time on Pensacola Beach, and that's not enough to handle the crowds, Mjr. Richard Nix of the Escambia County Sheriff's office told the SRIA at its June 11 meeting.

Last summer 'best ever' on Pensacola Beach
      Ed Schroeder of the Pensacola Chamber of Commerce told the board members that 2007 was the best year the county's ever seen, with Pensacola Beach garnering 39 percent of the tourism dollar in Summer of 07. However, tourism collections lost ground in the winter, which Schroeder attributes to the economy and the price of gas.
