Surf Fest 2008
     Pensacola Beach was busy with activity Saturday, May 25, as hundreds of people participated in the always popular Surf Fest event near the Gulf Fishing Pier. Under brilliant, sunny skies, young and old alike enjoyed numerous activities, including surfing and surfing lessons, a sand castle-building contest, hoola-hoop contest and skim-boarding. Vendors from several local surf shops had goods for sale, and great music was pumped over the public-address system. The event coincided with the Memorial Day holiday, which lured thousands to the beach.

Sand becomes sculpture Sunday
FIESTA EVENTS KICK OFF
      The Fiesta of Five Flags Association will host the annual Fiesta Sand Sculpture Contest on Sunday, June 8, at 8 a.m. The event will take place on Pensacola Beach at the foot of the Gulf Fishing Pier. There is no charge to enter the contest, and participants will be divided into age categories so everyone can participate and compete for cash and prizes.

This week on Pensacola Beach
      Friday, June 6 Stargazing with the Escambia Amateur Astronomers' Association, 7:30 -11 p.m. Visitors should park in the Ft. Pickens Gate parking lot and walk about 1/10 mile west on Ft. Pickens Road, where the telescopes will be set up for viewing.

The English are at it again
      It seems that the English are at it again. Two years ago they cloned a sheep, called her Dolly (which was cute because they took the cell to clone from a ewe's breast.) They named it after Dolly Parton as a tribute. True Story! I don't know why they want to clone sheep, I mean it's not like sheep don't already look enough alike.

Volunteers share time, ability for greater good
      Volunteers! What would we do without them? Volunteers are often the lifeblood of organizations, some of which would not survive if they had to pay for all the work that needs to be done. That is true in churches, as well as civic, educational and political groups.

Hemingway's adds another venue
      Another restaurant and bar is open on Pensacola Beach, just below Hemingway's. Serving lunch and dinner as well as cockatails and beers, the Bimini Beach Bar offers live entertainment on the beach level.
