PollHEALTH Sacred Heart Cancer Center targets September 2009 opening Sacred Heart Hospital plans to build a $31.5 million Cancer Center that will provide the most advanced cancer treatment to patients in Northwest Florida. The new center will be located on the northern edge of the Sacred Heart campus in Pensacola adjacent to the hospital's Medical Park at Airport Boulevard and College Parkway. Construction of the new Sacred Heart Cancer Center is scheduled to begin in August and take about 13 months to complete. "Our vision is to be the region's premier cancer center. The facility will combine excellent diagnostic and treatment technology, great doctors and staff, a healing environment, and individualized patient care supported by the latest knowledge and research," said Patrick Madden, president and CEO of Sacred Heart. "Our hospital is making a major new commitment of resources to help our patients and their loved ones beat this disease." The new facility will consolidate and expand Sacred Heart's cancer services. Those services include radiation and medical oncology, outpatient chemotherapy, lab and pharmacy services, patient education and support services, and cancer research staff. Thursday's groundbreaking for the new cancer center was part of a greater expansion project to bring quality, compassionate cancer services to patients throughout Northwest Florida. Sacred Heart's group of medical oncologists currently has offices in Pensacola, Crestview, Milton, and Opp, Ala. Merk joins Andrews, Gulf Breeze Hospital Kyle Merk has joined the Andrews Institute and Gulf Breeze Hospital to provide speech therapy services. Merk earned her bachelor's and master's degrees in speech pathology at Fredonia (N.Y.) State University. She works with patients to assess, treat and help prevent disorders related to speech, language, voice, swallowing and learning development. All nurses invited to 'The Gathering' Nurses currently employed in their profession or retired are invited to attend "The Gathering," a time for spiritual enrichment and community awareness Friday, May 30, from 8 to 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Hospital's Conference Center on Ninth Avenue in Pensacola. Guest speakers will be Robin Price, RN, who will give an inspirational presentation; Fred Cornett, who will share information about the Good Samaritan Clinic; and Shirley Cornett, who will talk about Interfaith Ministries.
